I have the trunk of my car pulled apart to put an insulation kit in; anyways I thought it would be a good time to replace the stock speakers while I have easy access to them.

If I am reading the ink correctly on the stock rear speaker, it says 6 ohm, 100 Watt. Well, most aftermarket car speakers are 4 ohm, anybody know if that different load will adversely affect the amp? I don’t know if the amp can tolerate a different load... most after market ones can go down below 1 or a 1/2 ohm, but I dont know anything about the stock amp.

Next, someone in another post said that they installed JL audio 6.5" subs in the rear... anyone have a part number or place to buy? The only JL audios I could find were the 3-way component versions.

Anybody have the ddaudios? How much better are they than stock?

Any other recommendations for the rear speakers (using stock amp for now, may or may not upgrade in the future)?

Thanks.

Heya!

I installed 4 ohm JL Audio 6W0 6.5" subs in the back and they fit perfectly - drop right in with no issues and sound great.

I bought mine from a local stereo shop that had them in stock - just ask for the 6W0 and most places can hook you up.

I can't offer much advice on the 4hm vs 6hm but I'm running 4ohm with no issues with the stock amp.

JL audio 6.5 "subs" are not "true" subs. they are great for us Rt10 owners but if you got a GTS, then youve got the space and capability to make a true competition audio setup, dont waste your time on a 6.5 unless its your components and then, MB Quarts are a bit better especially through the midrange IMO. I would combine them with the JL audio 8" sub at least (or customize the vehicle to accept two 8s or one 10). use a 300x4 amp for the components and then a dedicated amp for the sub(s) and NOW you got some quality sound for that bucket

from the JL Audio page... looks like it is a drop-in...

The 6W0 opens up a world of custom installation possibilities. This small driver is a true subwoofer with excellent low-frequency extension in very small enclosures. The 6W0 is small enough to be integrated under dashboards, inside custom consoles and in many other applications only limited by your imagination. It is not intended as an infinite-baffle speaker (our XR650-CW component woofer is better suited for that application.)

I tried one of those 6W0's in my RT/10 and it just didn't have enough "thump" for me. It does have decent bass for its size (as long as you enclose it right). I ditched it and went for a ghetto bass box in the passenger footwell area. (10 inch solobaric) :headbang:
