Hello,

Being this is my first post I wanted to say hello. I am in the process of selling a highly modified 99 Hardtop and want to replace it with a Viper. But due to the exclusivity of the viper, which I love, I have never been able to talk to any viper owners. So I have a couple of questions for everyone:

1. This call will be a daily driver and all things being equal, is the ABS really worth it? I know I have used it before in my Vette and I am going on the assumption that the car will see rain, therefore ABS is a must. Am I thinking clearly??

2. Other than the addition of ABS in 2001 is were there any other significant changes(outside color changes) made in 2001 when compared to the 2000. If ABS does not matter what year is the best value, if ABS is not a consideration.

3. Which dealer has the best relationship with the forum, location does not matter.

4. How many people have had experience with the extended warranties on the Viper. I assume these are a must when this things breaks down.

5. Anyone have any other recommendations

Thanks

Robert

Well, just traded my 00 for an ABS 01, just for the reason that if I stomp on the brake, they won't lock up. Had a near disaster about 3 weeks ago when someone pulled out in front of me when I was showing off (speeding!). That was it. Now I have ABS, but that's just my opinion.

Some people don't think it is a good daily driver. I would have no problem with it being a daily driver. We used to drive horses and wagons, right?

No significant changes for 01.

You can't go wrong with Woodhouse (Bill Pemberton)(1-800-889-1893).

I have the extended warranty. It's a peace of mind thing, and helps resale, I believe.

Hey, mine's a daily driver with no ABS, no significant problems yet!

BTW, I noticed you were in bburg, are you employed at Va Tech? (Wondering since I went there some years ago...)

Are you planning on getting only either an 00 or 01, and just deciding between them based on ABS?

slaughterj,

I was a student at tech, I now use it as home base for my business. I travel 100% of the time doing software consulting on my own. Blacksburg is really big now and its gets bigger every year it seems. You would probably not recognize 460 where it enters Blacksburg, lots of new highways. If you are every in the area look me up.

As for the car the ABS thing, it is in my mind, but some say you should not be driving this car it if you can’t handle it, ABS is not going to save you all the time. Plus I can not remember the last time ABS saved my ****, in fact never.

Another thing Ron brought up was warranty transfer and how that plays into it. I am really leaning towards an 01 right now maybe 02 if I can get the same deal, plus the 02 will be the last coupe for a couple of years.

Who knows, when you don't know just sit tight.

Thanks for everyone’s help, especially Ron.

Robert
