was wondering what a 2008 motor would cost 'roughly to buy & have installed.

the reason i was asking is because im thinking about buying another viper, and its got high miles. even though im sure it will last a while as it is ... im wondering if it comes down to getting a 08 motor installed .. what the cost will be roughly. just a stock 08 (600hp). does this motor (being installed in a 05) need any wiring harnesses, or computer changes? or is it a straight easy swap?

Because of the changes, I would think the engine harness and for sure the computer are very different. It would probably be a challenge. I would say the best bet is to buy a 03-06 engine and have it built to your spec. Just easier in the long run,

The swap will be extensive for sure. You will need all the wiring harnesses and all the PCM modules since they are all tied together in some fashion. Then the drive by wire etc. would need to be present and after all this maybe everything will work but you will have a ton of money in it at this point. For the same money or a lot less you could built a pretty stout Gen3 motor with a blower or whatever.

You forgot one important part: an '08 - '09 transmission. ;)

You can use the older transmission with the new motor the same way you can up grade to the new one on a Gen3 car. Needs a new drive shaft but that's not much $$.

But isn't the new transmission designed to handle the additional HP and torque of the Gen. IV engine?

Cost: Motor and Trans and PCM and harness ~$15k.

The G-4 engines dont even speak the same computer language as G3 !
NOT a straight and easy swap'
