I wrote to the NYS DMV my question was regarding:
" Note: Before wearing your 5-point harness on the street, check your local traffic laws." So i asked the DMV can i wear it legally? here is their answer:

I have received your email regarding a 5 point safety harness. There is no
prohibition in the Vehicle and Traffic Law against wearing the 5 point
harness. However, you are required, at minimum, to wear the seat belt that
is in the vehicle when sold by the manufacturer.

Of course the 5point is more safe than the standard seat belt, it's my understanding that the reason the standard is required is because the average person knows how to unhook the standard seatbelt in case of emergancy.

Anyone who has strapped themselves with a 5 point knows how to use it and also knows that it is quicker to get out of than the government standard.

As far as being unconscious with 20 seconds to live and a passerby coming to the rescue...what did you say, "get serious?"

The reason why 5-points aren´t legal is that they are not self-adjusting. They do not roll up or self tighten, and federal safety regs require "automatic" adjustment.
