Probably revealing too much here, but if I can trust a group...this is the group to trust

Yup...me and my entire portion of the Marketing department all the way up to the VP of the Segment were let go...First time laid off...not sure what to do know but hit the web. Know of anyone that is hiring in Sales/Product Marketing/Analysis with 8 years experience? Let me know if you have any suggestions or know anyone looking. And yes, it was a total surprise...interesting piece...I have received Segment level awards for the past 6 months...but oh well...that is Dell...

Yes, I plan on keeping my Gen 1 at all costs...just might not be driving it as much as I used to ( I need rear tires ) Maybe it's time to refinance?

Okay, I am done, just thought I would try the board for suggestions.

Try freelancing. Nothing like going into business for yourself. There's always work for good marketers. Keep your chin up and your head down... and you'll be alright.

i remember a couple times like that. it happens to all of us. it sux.

but time did pass, and i realized later down the road that:

1. it happened for a reason.
2. i always managed to make it work to my advantage.
3. i always learned, and became a better person from it.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I agree with big-n-italian on this one; it seems you always do better for yourself after a situation like this. I got laid off in 03 from a major software manufacturer and it was quite a shock. I ended up going from a Fox body muskrat to my Viper....it ended up being worth it in the long run. A little hardship makes us all better.

Even though I'm happy with my current job, I still look everyday. Monster seems to have the best selection. Go through the long process of posting your resume for the world to see and also sending emails to you everyday. Also set yourself up on Yahoo's Hot Jobs and CareerBuilder.com. I also like to check the local newspapers online classifieds daily...saves you from having to buy 5+ different papers each day.

Also, beware to not fall into that unemployment trap. I happened to me and it is a rut that's hard to get out of.

Good luck. When you look back a year from now you'll be better off.

I think most of us "silver backs" have been there before! And as previously said, you will likely rebound at least into a comparable position or likely, a better one. I made my career change from an Assistant Professor/Scientist to med student at age 37! Yes, I almost had my ride repo'd once while in med class, etc., but things worked out. I had to beg the financial aid officer for loan money (still paying that off!) to make my meager living expenses while in school, I was a paid physiology experimental subject (the lowest of low), scraped up odd jobs while in school. It was all worth it because I had a goal just as I'm sure you do. I hope that you succeed in finding an even better job.
