A friend just bought one for his 97 GTS. Optima recommended the 800 CA Red Top. Optima Part number from the box is 0753-9004-003. He bought the battery from Jegs High Performance in Delaware for $157 (including shipping). He did have to saw off about a 1/4 inch of the top negative terminal to make it fit. Otherwise, everything is fine. I expect one of these will end up in my 2001 GTS before I take it to a Viper Days track event.

Hope this helps.

Ron is right on the part number but either his friend paid WAYYYYY too much or the shipping was a killer h-e-a-v-y.... If you have a "Batteries Plus" store anywhere near you, pop in there and work them a little. List price is $130 and we have paid $105 for our last one, as well as telling another club member about it - he paid the same.

And don't saw anything - we've been able to install three of these by slightly bending the battery TRAY to allow for enough clearance. Certainly no need to mess with the negative terminal - what's the worse that could happen - it would ground to the frame??? Work the tray, don't alter the battery.

I agree with Janni, do not saw off the posts. The runner that connects to the side posts is a thimble that is over the top post. Saw if off and you loose the connection. You could shave a very small amount off the top of the negative post, but I would not go over .010 in.. I have the model 75-35-925 and it works very well without modification to the trey. The battery trey varies in height on the Viper, so some fit and some don't.

One of the best places to buy one is here in Denver at Reco Battery, 303-893-9324. The last price I had was $99 plus shipping. Jerry Scott
