Interested in hearing your views on leaving the viper in public parking lots. Anyone out there come out and see a big dent from some a$$holes door? Any of you guys use parking lots all the time, and never had a problem?

I park mine in public parking lots but make it a point to park far far away and usually take up atleast 2 parking places. I figure people will be either too lazy to park a mile away from the door like I do or will atleast not be able to park close enough to my car to dent it. And I try to stay away from places where the parking lot is 90% of crappy ****** cars where they dont seem to care as much about their (or my) car. To answer your question, the only time I've had a problem is I was parked outside a restaurant on the rich side of town and came out and someone had spit on my hood. I was PISSED beyond words. If I had caught the person, I wouldve introduced their mouth to my 4 way lug wrench. :evilmad: :curse:

I am particularly careful at grocery stores and mindful of abandoned buggies that could roll in my direction. I most often grocery shop at 7am on a saturday when the store is just opening and empty.

I stopped going out of my way by parking on the far side of the lot a long time ago. You could park 1,000 feet away from the nearest car in a deserted parking lot, and when you come back to the car, there will be a car on each side of you.

That is so true, it's always a freak'in minivan too! As for taking up 2 spots, I always wonder about "that guy" who looks over and thinks to himself..."look at this ****, thinking he is better than everyone else"...then he walks over, and mule-kicks your car.

When I park at work (a college), people usually go out of their way to park closer to the other side of the spot next to me. I get there early enough to find an end parking spot and park as close to the line on the empty side as possible but it's the closest parking spot to the door. I figure that if it's closer and in plain view, people will respect it more.

I don't mind parking lots as long as I can sit in the restaurant and view the car. I park far away and visually watch over the car. I never leave the car where I can't sit and watch over it, but then again, I'm only taking her out for 600-1000 mi/yr.

I park as far as possible...only once some [******] decided to bring his [******] bag 89 pontiac and have his kid open the door full force. I was at starbucks and looking outside at the time! Not sure if it hit my car but I went outisde to check and I dind't see any damage or I would have probably caused some damage to his face :)

At last year's AL/TN VCA Christmas party, I asked the security guard if I could park under the overhang at the motel's registration desk. I figured it would be safe there, since no one could park next to me. The guard approved.

The next morning, there was a note of my windshield which said: "Get a life".

I've concluded that only a miniscule percentage of the population can even begin to understand the mentality of an exotic car owner.

Why am I plagued by these pygmy minds?????

DITTO. I'd never park in a public lot without being able to keep my eyes on it.

Here's a question...
When going to a restaurant that offers "Pickup only" (for people just picking up some take-out food) spots, like Chili's for instance, I always park in those spots, even though I am dining in. It's not a handicapped spot, and they are always close to the door.

Anyone else do it? I do it every chance I get.

Just a few weeks ago I parked my Viper approximately 150 feet away from any other car of a home depot parking lot at 8:00am on a Sunday morning. That translates to several EMPTY rows of open parking spots between my car and the front door. When I came out of the store 5 minutes later a van was parked so close to me that my father could barely open the passenger door. So this guy passed up at least 100 empty parking spots that were all closer to the front door just so he could park his heep of crap next to me. I was truly honored!!!!

It is kind of like holding a baby.....if your wearing an old shirt you're good to go, but if it's fresh and clean you know you're getting barfed on (especially if you're late for work). When I see cars park next to mine, I just take it in stride. You drive a car that cost as much as somes peoples homes, get use to it.

Happens to me all of the time.

Side note...you took your Viper to Home Depot? I hope you weren't buying more than like one short screwdriver.

Chime in: Park where you can see it, and where if you have to get up and 'enforce' it won't take too long to get to it.

If I have to stop at Home Depot or somewhere, I make it quick and park in the fire lane next to the building or as far as possible from others. Of course someone is going to park right next to you, our cars are like magnets (not just for cops)

Uhhh, you know that is illegal, right?

That's just one of those things you don't do. Like parking in a handicapped spot.

Being in a new home, I go to Home Depot a lot on weekends getting things in order. I love going in work attire (paint stained track pants, shabby jacket) and then walking up to the Viper and getting in. The look on those people's faces who happen to be in the parking lot are priceless.

Same as santo, new home.
Fire lane only once, and I wasn't the only one (I know that doesn't make it right, but if buddy in his running, 4x4 dually deisel quad cab does it...and it was still there when I left) I know it's illegal, but ramming a cart into my car isn't, and there's nothing you can do about that damage once it's there...
For years I've given people the benifit of the doubt and constantly been bitten. No more, now it's me first. Sorry if I've offended anyone. I really didn't mean to do so.

Parking where we are not intended to park is just as unscrupulous as someone hitting our cars with a door. Please don't give people any more reason to hate us. It causes me way more anxiety to park in public than it's worth so I don't do it.

I can understand your anger 100%, but remember, if you block a firelane, fire hydrant, etc., instead of being able to have your insurance cover any damage, any resulting damage is your responsibility. And if you end up being parked there when an emergency vehicle needs to be there, you're gonna get a damaged car AND a big fine.

Not to mention that parking in a fire zone or blocking a hydrant potentially risks lives....

I think people who park in handicap spots should be beat until they are hadicap. I know a couple people who have parents or spouses who are handicap and will use their handicap permit to park in the spots even when the handicap person isnt with them. I'd like to see a disabled person walk by their car one day and use their cane to break out their back window

"If you can't enjoy the car and drive it...why have it ?"

If you can't afford to treat it like a car,

perhaps you have more of your income ******* in it than you should.

And watch out for those scrapes on the under side of the chin.
Anyone who lays down on the ground in front of the car and looks up, will see those.
Get a life.
It's a car.
