my rubber shift boot was badly torn so i decided to replace it. i drilled out the rivets and in the process of doing so the bottom part of the three left rivets are now rolling back and forth every time i accelerate or brake. does anyone have any idea how to get them out? i tried a magnet and i tried a rubber hose and a vacuum but no luck.

I had the same problem. I thought about 2 routes to go. Drill a hole to access the bits, or perhaps put some sticky glue in there then slam on the brakes to get the bits to stop sliding around....

Well, I drove it for awhile, and they quit rattling around eventually on their own. They must have either got jammed up somewhere in there, or came out at an unknown location :p
