So whats the difference? I have the Vec3 and it works well. What differences does the SCT give or provide over the VEC? Is there software so I can make my own adjustments or do I have to get those from a tuner?:dunno:

From my limited understanding, one works well with closed loop and the other with open loop. I think you can get more power from the VEC but requires a good tune which can be costly (labor). The SCT has functions that the VEC does not, ex. shift skip, turning the fan on sooner, etc.

I have an SCT I'm very happy with it.
Tunes were researched from various Viper-expert companies, and I decided on 3 tunes from Roe Racing (91 oct, 94 oct, Valet).
DC Perf. came in 2nd place, as they got a 5800 lb. quad cab daily-driving full-size truck into the 10's. :)

The tunes were emailed to me, then dumped (via USB cable) onto the SCT.
SCT was plugged into the ODBII on the truck, and a few clicks later...voila!
Absolutely painless.
I called Sean immediately and thanked him for what felt like a brand new engine! Yes- it was that big of a difference. I'm very happy.

The SCT is limited in how many times it can be used. You are only allowed to use it for 3 vehicles, then it locks up and costs $150 to have SCT reset it. So be careful if you're looking at pre-owned ones.

The VEC is great, but must be hard-wired into the vehicle. Tunes are via media card and then the reader inside the vehicle.

From memory, the VEC has much more versatility than the SCT, but the SCT offers non-hardwired convenience and a slightly cheaper price.

You can do 99.9% of what the VEC can do with the SCT without adding extra hardware. If you want to do the tuning yourself, then you can buy the pro racer package.

Shandon: I know Sean Roe would be glad to explain the differences between the two. Give him a holler! ~juli

Hi Shandon, sorry didn't know that. :D

No apology needed! I didnt make that known in my thread. Im thinking of getting some forged internals upgraded by Dan and he mentioned this in our discussion. Thought I would see if anyone had expereince with either. :headbang:

Well, I have the Vec3. I, personally, can tune for open loop operation, WOT conditions. I can adjust fuel, timing and even log. Logging is a great feature in the Vec3. I cannot tune for closed loop operation, under WOT conditions. I cannot adjust when the fan turns on based on coolant temps. I cannot adjust my long-term and short-fuel adaptives. I cannot eliminate the skip shift with the Vec3. For those running forced induction the Vec3 rocks. For NA, not so much. But I bought the Vec3 before the SCT existed for the Viper. I do plan on going S.C. and when I do I will have both the SCT and Vec3 unless one or the other can handle it all at that point.
