Pretty straightforward if you are talking about the Northwind kit.No special tools but replace the wire link between the two rails that comes with the kit with something sturdier. Use search to see examples

One inch kit works great. I felt I was looking through the top of the windshield (6'). Now it is perfect. Less turbulence in cockpit, and for some reason the seat feels even better. Only downside is it is a little more difficult to rest your arm on the door when trying to look cool cruising.

How hard is this to install? Any special tools needed?

I was surprised how quick it was to install on the GeIII. Much faster than the GenII. Maybe 30 - 45min.

No special tools either.
