Speed GT Qualifying - Lots o\' Comp Coupes!!!!

Final Qualifying Results here:
http://www.world-challenge.com/2004/events/seb/gt-qual.html

Tommy Archer leads the way in 6th, followed by Peter Tonelli and Mr. Bob Woodhouse in 10th and 11th.

Closely behind, Tim Wiens or 3R Racing and Viper Days alumnus Lenny Diller in 13th and 15th. Then, rookies Stan Wilson and Jimmy McCann in 17th and 18th.

In 22nd and 24th, rookies Adel el Sayed and Kenny Hawkins rounded out the field.

Mike McCann had an equipment failure (driveshaft? / halfshaft?) and did not qualify. however, I believe he will be starting tomorrow from the back of the field as his number 82 Comp Coupe is already being fixed.

Henry and I will be arriving tomorrow at 10:30 AM in Sebring to cheer the folks on and crew for Kenny Hawkins.

Live timing and scoring is available at www.world-challenge.com for tomorrow's race. Log on and check it out.

I expect Tommy to move up during the race, but the Caddys may be out of sight by then... Taking the pole by over a second had to be a mistake on their part. Can you say impending "Competition Adjustment"?

Re: Speed GT Qualifying - Lots o\' Comp Coupes!!!!

The GT race will be on Speed Sunday at 1 PM, IIRC.

The Caddy's have thrown a ton of money into their program - they have full factory backing and are spending a TON of money sponsoring the series, as well. This leads to some early favorable treatment. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

I'll be looking to 3R to lead the COmp Coupes, as they are series veterans with Tommy Archer driving the car he developed. They have an awesome team and huge resources. Don't count out Woodhouse - that sneaky hat wearing gentleman from Kneebraska or the McCann's, but as rooies, they will have a steep learning curve and will be loking for major sponsors to compete at this level - the costs involved are tremendous.

Let's hope Kasey Kahne wins a championship for Dodge in NASCAR so that we can get some support for real racing.

The caddy broke the track record set last year by 3.5 seconds. I think I'm going to run out and trade my slow Viper in for one.

I look at the qualifying results and get sad 'cause there's a name missing that would certainly have been near the top.

RIP PMUM.

Like the comp coupe isnt getting favorable treatment, YOU CANT EVEN BUY ONE! Think if you were one of the manufacturers who actually sell the car for street use, then you let in the CC with all its aero pkgs & call it a fair fight??? Run an srt 10 with a hard top & you can complain, but the fact that Caddy is putting the thing on the street is awesome, ARE YOU LISTENING DODGE ?????? GGIVE US A COUPE FOR THE STREET. Amen

GOOD LUCK to all the Viper drivers...sure would like to be there !!!

P.S. Hold your cards, Hoosier Daddy, part of your statement ( "caddy broke") may be a prediction if the race car is anything like their street cars...I can't keep up with the DeVille recalls even if I BATCH THEM :D :D

Re: Speed GT Qualifying - Lots o\' Comp Coupes!!!!

Lots of fun. Next year we'll get more Viper spectators. Thanks to all that came. Congrats to Archer, McCanns, Woodhouse and all the Vipers. All the Vipers had a strong showing. The real race was behind the four-door-blue-hair cars which BTW will be sandbagging the rest of the year. Due to the unbelievalble unfair advantage given to them it's actually a farce to have them on the track at the same time. The Corvette guys must be sick about it.

Janni, I looked for you but I forgot what pit you said you were in.

Last place finish was a Z06.

Just thought I'd throw that in there.
