stock \'02 GTS rims vs. ACR BBS, which are lighter, which are stronger

I've been toying with picking up a set of ACR BBS rims, I think they make the car look a ton better. But someone told me the stock GTS rims are much more stronger and lighter than the ACR rims. Is this true? They stated the ACR rims were made for the Viper by BBS and they purposefully made them heavier and a bit more bulky.

I was under the impression the ACR wheels are a stronger, better wheel.

The ACR wheels are stronger, and much lighter.

If the ACR was there club racer ask your buddy why would he figure they were made heavier and not as strong? just would not make sense

Stronger most likely, lighter for sure.

They are something like 2-3 lb's lighter per wheel than OEM 18 inch wheels.

Yep, stonger and lighter. Very hard to clean, though.

lol, short and sweet, your friend is a dip $hit.

ACR rims are definitely lighter, I have ACR rims, and I had a set of 99-02 stock rims, and my ACR's were significantly lighter, I even weighed them and its almost 6-7 lbs lighter for the rears, and 3-4 for the fronts EACH RIM.
However, putting CHROME on them adds another 1-2 lbs on each rim, sorry for anyone who wants to dispute that, I weighed my ACR rims before and after I had them chromed.

I guess like the old saying goes, if you keep saying something long enough, people will start to believe it. Tell your buddy to shut up.

-Always so pleasant.

hey 2002,
do you regret chroming your rims? They hard to keep clean?
so you're saying that even with the chrome job, they should still be lighter than OEM rims?
btw, we got same yr/model/color snake.

Chroming them has made them easier to clean IMO.

They are actually easier to clean, and NO WAY do I regret chroming them. Sure I would have loved to NOT have the weight penalty, but the attention that they get from the crowds and fellow viper owners is worth every pound of extra weight. They are still lighter then stock 99-02's, and yes, they are actually EASIER to clean. because its much harder for the dirt to stick to chrome then it is to the artic silver paint that they used on the ACR rims.

congrats on getting the best looking car color for the viper. Course the silver stripes really do help to set it off, and its always puts a warm fuzzy inside of me when I remember I have the ACR one on top of that ;-)

Good luck with your car.
