I recently been having a bit of trouble keeping my balancer on. And I've heard that "pinning the crank" which I already have had done voids the warranty on the crank. I'm in the process of my second pinning job, but I would like to have a fall back plan if this happens again. So here's my question; Is there any reason other than labor as to why you can't just bore the crank threading and tap the snout to accomodate the next size bolt with a left handed thread.

Did it sheer the first set of pins ? Did the bolt back out or what ?

Your idea of a bigger bolt might work, but the crank may need pulled and sent to a machine shop. I bet it's not only tough to drill but the tapping will be a bear.

Yep, I sheered the first set twice and now the two channels that were drilled are gulled pretty bad so were doing two more that will be perpendicular two the first ones. The one notable change is that we are going to use solid dowel pins instead of roll pins. Looking at one of the sheered pins, it appears that the pin split in half long ways as well as across. I'll try to post a picture, but it appears that the seam of the roll pin may have been the culprit. My other option if this happens again is to use a 5/16" pin and a bigger bit, but I don't want to compromise the integrity of the crank so I'll try the shallower 1/4" pins again.
