My GTS feels stronger than my SRT...BUT...my GTS is lightly modded (full exhaust, alum. flywheel...) so it's not really fair. You probably should drive an SRT with 3.55 gears for comparison.

Taller gearing, due to tire size, car is not broke in, and I'm sure the GTS is, so there's the contrasting difference, oh not to forget that stiff tight trans. I hate this part of the car, when new.

The car is smoother , hooks up better and is overall an improved vehicle. Simple answer, I know, but we got the same comments about the Gen IIs from alot of folks who traded in their Gen Is. The GTS just flat hooked up better and with the advanced suspension, it didn't get as wild under acceleration. In other words, the seat of the pants feel is different enough that this seems to be the perception, almost from generation to generation. We have had quite a few folks go with 3.55s and 3.73s for around town driving. As Skip said, it wasn't broken in yet, so lots of reasons , yet with a 11.70 in Motor Trend the car is fast.

The 2.5 or so longer wheelbase also changes the feel of accell. It's well known that the shorter a wheel base is on a car the more you will feel the accelleration.

The SRT really is much quicker.

I drove a 2004 for the first time this weekend and I have to say there is no comparison between my tubes/filters car and the SRT-10. Not only did the SRT feel much quicker, the motor seamed more flexible down low. I am wonder if having the top down effected the feel… SOTP is not exact but from what I felt it is a markedly faster car.

My '96 gts has k&n, smooth tubes, rear exhaust delete, and liteweight flywheel while my '03 has k&n and deleted blocking plate at hood scoop. everything else is stock on each car.
My feeling is that that the srt is much more tractable at low,low speeds ie not as much bucking, and has noticeably better seat of the pants feel, and seems quicker.
Bear in mind the fidanza aluminum flywheel really helps throttle tipin responce and actually helped lowspeed bucking somewhat although you have to learn to tease [modulate] the clutch and throttle at parking lot [low, low] speeds on these cars. By the way I have a new in the box vec 1 I do not need, if anyone is interested pm me.
