Spectators at Britain's newest circuit were bitten by the Viper bug at the weekend.
For Hayles Racing, which races the eight-litre American supercars in the Privilege Insurance British GT Championship, put on a memorable display of machinery at Rockingham Motor Speedway on Sunday (June 10) - with a little help from the UK branch of the Viper Club of America.
Led by Team Principal Curtis Hayles in his own '97 GTS model, 19 Vipers and one Prowler cruised round the new US-style Northamptonshire oval circuit ahead of round six of the championship. It was a magnificent sight for race fans in the imposing grandstands and a great memory for the members of the Viper Club to take home.
So the public could have a closer look, the club members then lined up their cars in the PowerTour village - alongside the awesome 1,200bhp Chrysler PT Bruiser drag car, the most vicious looking PR Cruiser around.
Although the day didn't end with a Viper win on the track, Tim Harvey and Rob Wilson finished second to give the supercar owners something to cheer during the podium presentations.
And the Hayles Racing drivers - Hayles, Harvey, Wilson and Ben Devlin - were later presented with specially-commissioned commemorative glass tankards by the Club as a thank you for organising the day.
Curtis Hayles said: "It was an honour and a privilege to lead a parade lap like that - it was certainly a rare sight, so many Vipers in one place.
"We'd like to thank the Viper Club for coming along and also the circuit and the PowerTour organisers for giving us permission to have a bit of fun on the track. All the Viper drivers loved the day and I'm sure they'll be coming to more events in the future."
