like I said before, can you buy a comp coupe & drive it out of your dealer showroom? is it street legal? You can drive a Zo6 & GT3 porsche on the street. It is a street car class.

at least we are back, they had a 6 liter limit the past year & they were supposedly not going to raise it. This class is in with the rolex series so it will mean dodge back @ the 24 hour!

Why the air restrictors? Do they want the Viper participation to equal that of T1? Will be interesting to see how many people try to field a car...

Well they pay 2500 show money for last place in the rolex series.. that pays the entry fees & gas $$. If you do the entire 14 race season, you get 30 or 40k for the next year. My class is 2 below this & we get 30 k for perfect attendance in 04.( and finish in the top 15 in class in points.) Also with endurance racing there is multiple drivers & a chance to rent the other seats. Our neon runs in cup class with 3 hour races max. The rolex is around 3 hours, but many are more, the 6 hour @ the glen, 24 hour @ daytona & many more. This gives the car owner an opertunity to get 2 or more other drivers in the car & help ofset the costs. grand am is NOT like world challange, they frown on rubbing.

The real question is whether it has been penalized out of being competitive. It has the highest minimum weight of the cars listed plus the air restrictors, MUCH heavier notably than the Porsches

/Thanks for racing in Grand Am...brought to you by the fair and balanced leadership of Porsche USA

I guess that was my point. (Mike's observation) You saw ZERO Vipers run in SCCA T1 nationals this year, and you see very few because of the restrictions. I dont think some guys want to race for the attendance trophy, or last place money.

It just ***** cuz my gut feeling is you wont see alot of Vipers for these reasons.

I beg to differ, the cars will be VERY competitive. This is endurance racing, not scca national sprints( which maybee have 2 or 3 cars in class in non runoff races) The viper curb weight is what 3500 lbs, so 3000 is not too bad to start. A GT3 porsche weighs in @ 2860 from the factory & gets less than 200 lbs weight reduction. & the ZO6 has had a great battle with the gt3 in the current GS1 catagory. Moving these cars up to rolex w longer races will even the chances for dodge because of the superior reliability compared to the corvette. They also have larger tires than world challange too. Considering the endurance sucsess of the viper , it is a shoe in for some podium finishes.

Maybee if they made a comp srt10 version of the CC it would be even better. But as it stands it is a big deal & gives all those guys who know have CC's a place to race their old cars.

Dont be so negative, the Zo6 guys are running crate engines & kicking a$$ when they stay together. The Viper will still make some serious HP even with the restrictors. Dont base your thinking on the T1 Results alone.

Remember Grand Am is now run by NASCAR management & they want AMERICAN CARS. The attitude & help they have given us on the SRT4 project is amazing. They want us to be up front. For example, @ VIR this month, they made sure we had the best paddock spot in the place knowing that PVO guys were coming to help. They usually park us by points, which means we would be in the woods! trust me this is going to be awesome, rmember , you have to finish to win & we all know the vipers can last.
