Thanks for all that information Art. It's certainly worth weighing.

I note also that Fairfax County, Virginia "Tax Facts" brochure states, in relevant part, that:

"Taxes apply if vehicle is normally garaged/parked in the county, even if registered in another state."

I guess the WV weekend getaway better have a climate-controlled secure garage. :D

I think it may be cheaper to become a used car dealer/wholesaler and just get a dealer/transporter plate. I guess it all depends on insurance costs as well.

vd..

can it really be cheaper to live in ny???

My 2000 GTS ACR costs me $491 in property taxes each year in Connecticut.

We have an income tax and a 6% sales tax as well.

Property taxes vary by town, and are the result of multiplying the "mill rate" set by the Board of Finance by the assessed value of the real estate. The real estate is assessed at 70% of the estimated market value and is evaluated at least partially every 4 years. Our town has a mill rate of 13.8 which yields $1,380 per $100,000 worth of assessed value.

Insurance - don't get me started!
