Jason / John, how did your cars do in Vegas? I am dying to find out. Please give specs on the cars and times they pulled. I'll be talking to you tomorrow anyway.

Wish you could have made it Manny. Would have been nice to have you join us, the turn out was bad as far as Vipers. I know you want to run the drags in your car, we should take your car to the Qualcomm 1/8th mile drags soon. (they do it weekly) (racelegal.com)

11.05 (10.78 corrected) @ 133mph on the 720rwhp creampuff/7psi paxton with street tires. Tried slicks and I spun them badly - could have done better on the ET with some practice for sure, but the MPH tells the capability. All day saturday only allowed 3 runs! That is how insanely busy the event was. We watched some 6 second top fuel vipers run 6's at over 215MPH! Neat stuff!

The NX car was to run on the slicks today, but I came home last night. Waiting to hear how he did. Greg Baxter did VERY well in his car also. (broke half shafts twice and then switched to street tires to avoid that anymore) The day was HOT and all the cars stayed nice and cool. The bummer was that there was a limited amount of runs.

Was great meeting Todd (Utah Viper) and watching his SKILLFULL driving and great horsepower netting 10.30's at 139 (from memory of the one I saw him do and corrected at .9757 that is like 10.0X!!!) Best running Roe charger car I have seen in person. The ice/blower 'outercooler' was really trick! ;)

Well I got back tonight and the drive was uneventful. However, the turn out at the vegas event was not what I expected. Oh well. There were about 16-17 different vipers in attendance over the three days. Only about 12 vipers actually raced over the three day stretch. It was great meeting everyone and I hope those who attended had a good time.

I talked to phil( Mr. mopars at the strip) and he was going to try and get us to run more on sunday. That didn't even come close to happening! It was about 1pm and 90 degrees and no one had been able to make a pass. There were 325 drag cars in attendance. Anyway, I wasn't going to sit around anymore so we packed up and at around 2:30 the vipers made their first passes, it was probably around 92-95 degrees. By this time there was only 4 vipers left. I apologize for leaving but I was fed up with it.

I feel bad that the event didn't yield anymore racing but believe me I spent hours talking with them and it obviously didn't do one bit of good. I will not go back to this event unless they put in writing that I am going to run at least 5 times per day.

The results of the racing was pretty good. I will let everyone speak for themselves because I don't remember what everyone ran. Please know that it was between 90-95 degrees all three days so everyones times are not as great as they could have been. The weather was about 20 degrees above normal.

I had some new personal records to share. I made 2 passes on the pilots first was a [email protected] mph and the second was a [email protected] mph. That is my personal best on stock street tires. I then made 2 passes on BFG drag radials [email protected] and [email protected]. That is a personal best on the bfg's. I think with a cool day and a good launch I would be in the 9's. I love those bfg's. I never had an opportunity to run the slicks. I had them mounted and ready to go but never made a pass before I left.

BTW, thanks jason for the compliments and for taking care of greg who broke a half shaft and a u joint on two separate runs.

Great weekend with some great guys.

A long trip for so little opportunity to make some runs. I think the guy said there were 400 entries just in the Pro class, so a few Vipers were not even on the radar screen. We need to find a nice "late model" event where we can group up and have more fun.

Special Thanks to John and Jason for getting me up and running.

And thanks Todd for all your efforts. Your car is way cool and is certainly very fast!

Todd Congrats on your ET's !! But over 325 cars ?? That blows !

I think thats what makes the V-10 Nat's so nice..Limited amount of cars so everybody gets to have plenty of fun.

Cheers

Greg, this Sunday, like in 5 days? I know Carlsbad had some big event on Saturday, and I decided I would not go as I might only get 1 or 2 runs in, plus I have a paintball warfare event to go to (watch out Yellow Fever!)

How many cars do yhou expect on Sunday? I might be interested in going.

Take care,

Manny

Here is a copy of an email I sent to PHIL (mr moparsatthestrip):

Unfortunately the event for us viper guys was a disaster. We didn’t get to run anything we had planned. I told you on Sunday that I wanted the vipers to run at least 5 times. I left at 3:30 and I never made a pass. I told you that I wanted to run the vipers that lost behind the ones that won in the main event and you said it was fine but they didn’t let us. We didn’t get to run our street tire shootout or the radial tire shootout. We had planned it with you and said it was no problem but it didn’t happen.

I tried to be nice at the event because I know you were trying but when I heard that my guys did not make any extra passes (Sunday) it makes me mad. You said we could do anything we wanted but when it came down to it we got to do NOTHING we had planned on. It is something I like to call lip service. I really thought you were going to help us on Sunday but NOTHING. Not one thing I asked for happened. They didn’t use us for fillers, NOTHING. We were only about 10-15 vipers racing and you could have put us anywhere in between and it wouldn’t have made one difference but you didn’t. You said you would but you didn’t.

I think you are trying to please people but when someone tells me they are going to do something they better do it. UP until Sunday I understand but NOTHING happened for us on Sunday.

I will not be coming back and won’t be promoting anything for this event in the future. It makes me look BADDDDDDD when I come back and tell the guys that something is going to happen and it doesn’t. I was the viper guy in charge and if I wouldn’t have come no one would have notice because NOTHING I said happened.

If you want to try to repair the harm that you have done I do have some suggestions. First, put in writing that the viper racers will get at least 5 passes per day, unless they break something, or you will give them $100/day for their time. Second, give everyone who came this year a free ride for next year. No registration fee, no parking, no NOTHING. If you are willing to pony up we can try to repair what happened. Also, put us on the printed program with allotted times so the track officials will let us run. Whatever the guys name in the tower, chris or whatever (maybe your brother), I think he has a problem with vipers or something because there was only lip service from him, no action. We were such a small group that you could have put us in between groups and no one would have known the difference but NOTHING.

I wasted about 40-50 hours of my personal time to promote and make this event a success and it was a complete disaster. There was only one good thing that happened, I got to meet some great people. These same people now think I am a **** because NOTHING happened. So although I made some friends I probably already lost them.

I know it is your second year but telling someone something is going to happen and not following through is weak. I heard you talk about growing pains all weekend but you should have said that we can’t fit you guys in until 3:00pm instead of giving lip service. I would have just left for a cruise or gone home but instead I waited in the hot sun for NOTHING!

IF you want any vipers there at all next year please respond or know that I will tell everyone not to come next year. Viper guys don’t like wasting time, I don’t think anyone does.

Manny: Here's what I received from Carlsbad Raceway.

"Hi, We want to invite your group to join us on Sunday, March 28 for the Spring JBA Late model Drags. I hope to see some Vipers out there to give these guys with the Z06's fits! Gates open at 8:00AM with a $20 entry fee
......Jim LeVold, Drag Strip Manager, Carlsbad Raceway"

I had several inquiries from the club but not any feedback saying that many Vipers will attend. Judging from your video I watched, you would have no problem kicking some serious butt at this event. :D

Todd: I share your sentiment. Phil at Mopars at the Strip will also receive a "love letter" from me.

utahviper - that's a well written email to Phil, but he's been so swamped with all the crap it takes to put on this event that I doubt you'll hear from him for awhile. The event was a lot bigger than last year and they're still relatively new at this so there are going to be growing pains. I'm not making any excuses for Phil, but I am asking that you give him a little time to breathe before he responds to you.

It was great to get a chance to put a face with some of the names on line and even better to get a chance to watch you guys run. I'll be out there once my Arrow rebuild break-in is over.

Carlsbad sounds like a great event. I spoke to JBA, and they confirmed that NHRA technical inspection will be required.
That means the faster you go, the more safety equipment is required. The specifically mentioned that SRT-10 will need to be equiped with a 4 point roll bar, and that the factory set up will not be sufficient for low 12's, high 11's that the car is capable of.
I'll stop by to see everyone, but will probably not be able to run.

I would love to go. My car doesn't have the 5 point harnesses installed yet (they are sitting in my garage.) Anybody local know how to install these things correctly?
