What brand of headers w/Corsa is best?

Looking for any opinions/experiences with adding non-factory headers to a 2004 SRT that already has Corsa Track without the crossover. I also have deleted the two rear cats to further reduce sill heat.

The car is a little loud for me at the moment (when starting up in the garage it blows you away with the sounds reflection off the wall). I was thinking of adding Vortex cones to reduce some of the higher pitches of the exhaust and hopefully have a nice mean lower growl. Not knowing how much power the cones actually rob, adding headers should have a overall net positive effect on HP...

This is ultimately all a prelude to a Paxton install later this year. Doing what I can to get a nice aggressive sound without being overwhelming and adding a few hp were I can.

Headers are going to be overwhelming in terms of sound. The car will be much louder than stock. Bellanger seems to be a popular choice, than theres BB triflo headers. Those are two of the more popular ones ive seen discussed. Heres a thread discussing some stuff.

I am currently running B&B, no cats, Borlas and muffler cones on my SRT. The exhaust flows well and is not too loud. I ran B&[******] on my gts and was please with that car too.
If I were you, I would add some muffler cones now and install the headers at the same time you install the pax.

I read that link in the past, had some good info. I am looking to see if there was any updated info now that a number of people have been running with headers for while.

Is there a reason why you would wait to do the headers at the time of Paxton? Not being too familiar with the Paxton install would the labor cost be leveraged better by doing them at the same time?

In terms of labor it depends on what tuner is doing it. If you get both done seperately your gonna get charged based on the hourly rate. If you bring it all at once, maybe they'll just give you a package deal. Ask a couple of the tuners on this forum, they know best.

headers are not a great bang for the buck, you might get another 10-15 hp at a cost of $2,000-3,000 plus labor, not a good hp/$ the stock headers are pretty efficient. your around half way to a paxton supercharger that will easily give you 150 hp.

That's a pretty good point. I guess next will be the vortex cones and see how that works out. Just wanted to make a decision on headers before I get Paxton along with tune.

If I get a new dyno after the Vortex cones I will post the difference (reduction) if any.

Mark777,

The Corsa Track System is not designed to be used with headers. Call Corsa. If you choose to install headers with this system, it will be very loud and drone like crazy at certain speeds.

The Vortex cones do work. They'll cut the volume a little bit and won't impact power much if at all. Have your installer put them in front of the mufflers, not in the header collectors as Vortex recommends or you will loose power.

Spend your money on new forged pistons if you are going to add a Paxton.

It sure would be nice if someone made a side exit exhaust system for our cars that worked well with headers, didn't have a crossover, didn't drone, wasn't too loud and didn't cost us any hp / tq.

Good luck,

Dan

Dan,

Very useful info, thanks :2tu:

I had considered going forged but was also told that there are a number of items on the bottem-end that you might update as well if adding so much HP...

I go ahead with Vortex first and see how that sounds and install per you info.
