Just wondering outloud here, and would like some insight/opinions. I keep reading that the new 08' goodies (engine, PCM, etc) make it extremely hard to do any type of FI. Well, unless you want to spend $40k by "downgrading" everything to Gen 3 specs and then doing your build. My question is, do things like this play a roll in how Dodge designs future engines and electronics? Do they say "well, if we do this, it will make it easier/harder for FI to be added after the purchase". Better yet, does anyone think Dodge should try to build engines that are easier to FI, simply for that reason? Or, is it just a case of Dodge saying "hey, we want it this way, we're going to do it this way" and they don't care one way or the other about the simplicity/difficulty for the customer adding FI after the purchase?

No way. Most manufacturers hate the idea of someone putting a blower or turbos on their engine. Warranty issues.

Keep in mind when the '03 SRT came out, 500 hp was remarkable. They needed to raise the compression ratio and put better heads/intake on the '08 just to reach the next level.

Exactly .Another big factor to consider is emission compliance.600 HP nat asperated on an engine that is 50 state smog legal may have something to do with the new computer

Remember that the new engine had well over 800hp before it had to be "tuned" or in this case "de-tuned" to meet emission requirements. The engineers have said over and over "we can build all the power we want, but the Fed. emission standards are the limiting factor!"
