I am new to the Viper community with my recent purchase of an 06 vert. Absolutely love the car and took it to the track last night. I own some other high horsepower muscle cars so I am familiar with tricky launching on street tires. It took a few passes but I got the 60 foot down to 1.88 on the stock run flats and actualy hit a 1.82 and missed the 1-2 shift. With these numbers I was expecting solid high 11 second times but it just didn't happen. My best time was as follows:

60' 1.88
330' 5.20
1/8 7.85
1/8MPH 92.63
1000 10.10
1/4 12.02
MPH 115.31

It seems to me that this car is simply not producing the horsepower it should. In perusing other posts I see MPH in 118-122 range. 115 seems too low. Temperature conditions were great 70 degress, dry air, good barometric and my track is on 21 feet elevation. Density altitude was only about 350 feet.

This car is BONE stock right down to the tire and airfilters with 22K. Is there anything simple I should be checking here to account for this power level or do I just have a weak one.

Nice 60' times! Your mph is off though. My '97 went 118 bone stock.

What rpm are you shifting at? You need to run that tach up to 6000 before you shift. And bang those gears. No granny shifting!

If you're concerned about power, take it to a dyno.

I am powershifting all gears and running it right to the redline 5800-6000.

Also, was carrying about 1/2 tank of fuel.

Nice 60' time, with your 1/8th mile time your were on your way to an 11.7-11.8 pass. Did ya let of the gas early perhaps or hit the rev limiter at all? Your 1/8th mile is really respectable. Doesn't look like a power issue at all to me.

You made me think of something I hadn't before. Are you guys going through the traps in 3rd or 4th? Just ran a calculation on my Power/Speed calculator and it shows at 6000 RPM car should be doing 121 MPH in 3rd. But it seems on the track that I would have hit the reve limiter if I left it in 3rd any longer so it was getting shifted very close to the finish line into 4th. I left my foot in it well after the traps a couple of times to make sure I wasn't cutting it short.

But if I am in 4th, likewise, I should be well past 115 mph. Very strange.

Here also, look at the MPH at the 1/8th mile. These are 2-3 mph faster than mine even though my e.t. compares probably because of my quicker 60 foot time.

Are you absolutely positive the rear gears are stock too??

Making the extra shift to 4th is probably costing you the mph. I'd recommend the dyno (as mentioned already), if that's OK, then hit the strip again, going thru trap in 3rd. BTW, I think those 60' times are dang good. What air pressure did you have in your run-flats, or does that even matter with those? just wonderin'.

Were you in the black viper at Moroso (Palm Beach International Raceway)?

If so, we met, I was in the Red GT-R....... It seems that since the track was re-done, the trap speeds are a bit low for all cars running out there, the ET's are inline though....

If you want to hit the dyno, let me know, I want to get my ACR done, probably next saturday down here in Davie.....

Ran 25 psi in the run flats, but I started out at 29 psi. I am not sure the lower pressure helped that much as I changed my launch technique considerably in the interim. Next time out I am going to analyze the tire pressure impact a bit more. Will be heading to the dyno on Tuesday to end the mystery. What should these make at the wheels. This dyno is an eddy current dyno which I am told gives lower but more accurate numbers.

Will definitely try 3rd to the end next outing.

Yah, that was me! Glad to hear from you. I looked for you after a couple runs but didn't spot you. Had to be home by 7:30 so I couldn't hang around. I am goint to a dyno up here on tuesday (southern near the turn pike) but depending on how it does I may join you on Saturday. Of course you are welcome to join me on Tuesday if you like.

you left at a good time, it got pretty crowded as the night went on....

as for the dyno, as long as you have some other vipers to compare to on the same dyno, you should be able to see if your car is running right (I think your car is fine)....

car-tek in Davie, is where we do the viper dyno days (dynojet), so we have a really good idea on what vipers should pull what numbers.... let me know how it goes, I can't make it up there on tuesday....

PM me your email address and I will add you to the local club email list....

PM on the way with my email address. Will let you know how it goes tuesday. By the way, I think that was you in the left lane on my first pass. Couldn't tell for sure as you were blowing my doors off. That GTR really moves.

Your 60ft times are good your MPH is a little slow. I have a 03 with catback and it does 11.9@120 with a 1.8 60 ft with the az heat.

As a general rule of thumb driving 75-76 mph in fourth (1.00) ratio will reveal the rear gear ratio, Example 3.06 will regiter as 3000rpm. This asumes the tires are factory sized so the speed is acurate.

Definitely agree. Those 1/8 MPH should easily translate into a 120 mph trap if no shifts were muffed.

If the mph is off maybe the mph cones spacing is incorrect giving incorrect numbers at 1/4 mile markers?

Based on what I've seen and experienced with SRT cars, your ET is about right. MPH seems 2-3 slower than normal. I typically see 11.9-12.1 and 117-119 for stock SRT cars.

Hmm! Wouldn't that be interesting. It is a new track and there are other complaints on low MPH through the traps. Was just redone completely. If this proves to be true I think some personnel will be looking for work! But what about he 1/8th mile MPH? Does this look low also to everyone? Doesn't seem likely both would be measured at the wrong point.

Yeah, and with me running out of third and having to hit 4th right at the end of the run, how in the heck can I only be doing 115? Just doesn't make sense. SHould be around 119+.

I am a newby with vipers, but I thought these ran quicker than this but with a good launch but I guess not. What is the best 1/4 mile run with a bone stock SRT10?

Looking forward to the dyno run tomorrow. If it makes good power then the mystery really thickens.
