I saw on the schedule that there is a dyno day on April 25th although we haven't gotten any more information on the event. Are we still having it?

Well, here's the scoop!

The VCA, Washington Region, is hosting a Dyno Day at HorsePower Ranch, in Hobart, on Saturday, April 25, beginning at 9:00am. Come on out and join us for some loud cars, lunch, and fun!

2009 VCA Members, Associates, Previous Members, and Non-Members are all invited. This is an open event, intended to get us out of our garages, ready for spring, and to have a little fun! Cross your fingers that the weather's good, because it's a beautiful drive out to Hobart. :drive:

We will be competing for bragging rights for 2009, for greatest rear-wheel horsepower in three categories: Open, Modified, and Stock.

  • Open - Any street-legal car, including those with forced induction systems (i.e. Superchargers or Turbochargers)
  • Modified - Any street-legal car with drive train modifications, including headers, cat-backs, heads, fuel injectors, etc. except for non-factory forced-induction systems. All you Viper owners with Superchargers and Turbochargers will have to compete in Open class. If you're bringing a car with a totally factory forced induction system, then you can compete in either Stock or Modified depending on your other mods.
  • Stock - No drive train modifications allowed, except air filters and smooth tubes.
Cost is $75 per car, which is consistent with previous years. Except that this year, instead of subsidizing the cost, the WA VCA club will be pocketing the discount that John gave us toward our fund raising goals for the year. We plan to use the proceeds to help bring you more events this year. If you've come to Dyno Day in the past, note that this is a new location!

This event is family friendly! No special driving skills, experience, or equipment are needed.

HorsePower Ranch has a 2-wheel, "big-wheel", Mustang dyno, capable of measuring 2000hp, with 20,000 cfm of air flow through the cell. So, leave your AWD's at home, toss in some fresh gas, and bring out some big horsepower! Show us all what you got under the hood! :burnout:

Details:

  • Cost is $75 per car. Please make your checks payable to WA VCA, and send me an e-mail at [email protected]. I'll send you my snail-mail address to send the check.
  • Registration will be available on-site, day of the event. So, if you're not sure you can attend, and then your calendar clears up, come on out and we'll do our best fit you in.
  • There is a limit of 25 cars per day, and scheduling preference will go to pre-registered entrants. If you have a scheduling preference, please indicate such with your payment.
  • Lunch is provided
  • Horsepower Ranch is owned by John Garner, and located at 28403 SE 204th ST, Maple Valley, WA 98038. John can be reached at 425-413-8889, or [email protected]. Visit John's web site at Horse Power Ranch - Dyno Tuning Specialists. We Make HorsePower! for a map to his location.
  • Here's a link to a more detailed map: 28403 SE 204th St, Maple Valley, WA 98038 - Google Maps
  • Questions? Please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected].
See you there!

Steve,
Thanks for the info. I will send off the funds tomorrow. I am looking forward to a chance to dyno my car even though it is mostly stock. Let's hope we have a nice day to drive over.

I didn't get the notice. I'll send out an e-mail to the officers when I get a new e-mail address (previous address from National was wrong, and the work e-mail I normally use will no longer be in effect as of Friday:().

I'm out for the dyno as of 4:30 this afternoon, since $75.00 is out of the budget for me. I'll be there, though, since - apparently - I have more time on my hands than I thought.

Picked up the latest round of parts from Bellevue Dodge today. Great bunch of folks there, just wish they knew what they were doing. How hard can it be to order one hose fitting? :dunno:

Maybe I'll just put the leaking hose back on and stock up on power steering fluid. :crazy2:

Chance of rain is currently at 10%. Can't wait to see that Copperhead - what, no before and after, Clint? :2tu:

Hope you've taken off the snow tires - they're illegal now, you know...

Well, crud. My hose fitting finally got here yesterday and is now installed. But, my wife had to have emergency eye surgery for a detached cornea this week. That means I'm on chauffer duty for piano lessons for the boys in the morning. Hope this lasts a while as I won't make it out 'till around noon.

What a great event! Thanks Steve for putting it together, the weather held, lots of faces both old and new, quite a variety of cars and people.

Congratulations to everyone who won an award including the top dog in the open class, and now member of the 700+ rw-hp club... Clint!!!

Well, the results are in!

11 cars ran the dyno, and 2 more showed up just to join the fun. And what fun we had! John Garner, owner of the Horsepower Ranch, put on one heck of an event for us, including a first-class lunch with grilled burgers and sausages. :eater: Thanks John - that was great, and we'll definitely be back next year! :burnout:

Each participant got at least 3 pulls (more if you wanted), an individual printout with horsepower, torque, and air/fuel mix graphs, and words of wisdom from John about how their car was running. Even though John's Mustang dyno generally shows numbers about 5% lower than comparable DynoJet dynos (as we've used in the past), we still posted some pretty darn good numbers today!

Most importantly, everyone had a good time!

Winners:

Stock - 1st Place: John West, 535rwhp from his Gen IV SRT-10 with 2,000 miles! :headbang:
- 2nd Place: Paul Ronald, 447rwhp from his Gen III SRT-10 VOI Edition :D
Modified - 1st Place: James Retych, 522rwhp from his Gen II GTS :2tu:
- 2nd Place: Richard Koch, 428rwhp from his Gen II RT-10 :scool:
Open - 1st Place: Clint Shearer, 704rwhp from his Gen III SRT-10 :omg: :omg: :omg:

Honorable Mention goes to Charley Reid with 457rwhp from his Stock Gen III SRT-10 - good enough for 2nd place if he had made it prior to the awards ceremony! :brick:

Now we just need some pictures posted!

I'd like to offer my personal thanks to everyone who came. The energy and enthusiasm was great, and made it a pleasure to sponsor this event!

Steve "Needs More Air!" O'Neill
418rwhp (added 21rwhp with another fan!)

Steve,
A great day to get together and play with the Vipers. We sure had a bunch of screaming runs to watch and the hospitality there was great.

The black cars were fast and did well, in spite of being totally covered with pollen. Perhaps without the coating of yellow dust they may have been even faster.
