I want one now I think the exclusivety of the viper has won the argument for me... Now what's insurance is it a lot more than a z06 since its a exotic??

A Corvette is the Great American Sports Car... A Viper is an American Exotic. If the car is purely a toy the Viper is way more fun and has way more Wow factor. If you need transportation and plan to leave the car parked anywhere beside you garage then get the Vette because it will blend right in and go pretty much unnoticed. This is a Viper forum and I own a Viper so I would rather drive a $25,000 Gen1 Viper than a $70,000 C6 ZO6.

As an ex-owner of a zo6 ,and new owner of a viper srt-10 the Viper just gets my blood pumping. The Vette is a great DD ,but very vanilla, and the Viper is vinella with ****** sprinckles fun as hell on the weekends.

Basically a total driver's race. Not much difference in max performance, but either one can beat the other one on any given day.

ive owned a c6zo6 and 2 06 vipers. the z would walk the vipers. the 0-60 was very close because the viper hooks better.

now i own an 08 viper. :)

the z is the better streetcar (talking z vs gen 3 now), the viper is the cooler car.
for a once a month cruiser i would def take a viper.

go drive them both and YOU decide. we cant pick your car for you.

I know what I would do. Oh and by the way look where I live. Nothing like seeing a thousand + vette owners gauking at your ride during their homecoming:D

Individual results may vary, but your premium should be close to that of the Z.

I have not owned a c6z06 but have driven many since that is what seems like all my buddies have. I just dont want them to walk off and leave me on the tollway... and then run there mouth all night about how they blew my doors off. You all know how that goes. Maybe a few bolt ons headers exhaust intake tune and gears will make the differnce.

Insurance is much cheaper than anticipated. It is only a few dollars more a month than my '03 Cobra with the same deductibles (500). About 90/month and I'm under 25. Results will obviously vary, my record is clean and there are a lot of discounts applied.

At age 24 a couple of speeding tickets is a pretty lousy record isn't it?

I think I can add my $0.02 about this situation. If you're looking to be the fastest, then don't bother with the GEN III Viper unless you go with big mods. I've owned a C6Z06 with a few mods and was not the fastest but on top of the food chain within my fellow "Posse" members. Then my long time love affair for the GEN II VIPER kicked into over drive and I pulled the trigger. Knowing that stock for stock the GEN II was not in the same performance ball park, it did not matter. I wanted something DIFFERENT. Something that would give me that adrenaline rush just sitting at the light. I was after something different and achieved all of it with the Viper:

No more waving every hour to my fellow GM family when driving my weekend toy.

No more being confused with a Grand Sport or ZR1.

I enjoy taking pictures but now I find that my picture is being taken more than I can keep up with! :D

I'm more conscious and aware of my driving skills since driving the Viper. I was spoiled with the vette. :drive:

In my situation....being only 1 of 86 is a nice thing to know.

When out with the "Posse" and we stop or meet, I'm not the fastest and definitely not the slowest but the attention seems to gather around the snake. A lot will talk about being faster, blah blah blah but I realized a LOT of them also recognize it takes a DRIVER to drive these cars fast and most will not admit they are a little intimidated by that fact.

Bottom line.....> If you want to be the FASTEST get the Vette.
If you want to be the lone wolf that your buddies would HATE to LOVE... get a Viper.

Disregard my last post...

Go with the Corvette. It's probably a SAFER route at this point.

Why stop waving? Are you less friendly now that you're not in the GM family? I don't get it.

I have a patch on my motorcycle vest that reads:

"If I have to explain, you would'nt understand"

I think this applies here. :2tu:

Yea. My record is perfect and the last time I was given a ticket was three years ago for 50 in a 45. I still contend I was not speeding, heck I was in the right lane behind a bus!

If you don't have a clean record, I'd suggest getting a quote first. I'm coming from a 1000+hp car, and the Viper is significantly more unpredictable than that.

Were you expecting a bunch of Viper owners to tell you to buy the Corvette?

If you don't understand the reasons for picking a Viper, then you'd probably like the Corvette better.

I see 5 Corvettes every day.

I see 1 Viper every other year.

Status quo = Corvette :crazy2:

Exclusivity = Viper :cool:

Hell, buy the viper and throw on a cold air system and full exhaust with headers and you'll be neck and neck with the vette. The V10 isn't working nearly as hard to get you the ponies either, LOTS left in reserve.

I had a Z06 I purchased brand new in 2002. After a few months, it was just another used car. Yet, 14 years after it was built. My 97 GTS is still a rock star...

Again, if this is a decision, buy the vette. The Z06 was the last vette I'll ever own.

Actually I think the guy has gotten some very solid feedback overall. I doubt you would be seeing that on "the corvette" forums.

It has been good info all of it. I want the viper because not many people have them and when people see it they gotta look back for a second look. just the awwhhh factor of the viper has clearly made my decision easier.

Very interesting Taximan..

yes I forgot to mention that as well...

Vettes are shock and awe vehicles..They simply arent rare enough to deserve any merit on that factor..They simply arent wild enough looking to deserve any merit as well...So what does GM do?

2000 350 HP (13.3 at 108 mph)
2001 Z06 385 HP (12.7 at 114 mph)
2002 Z06 405 Hp (12.4 at 116 mph)
2005 400 HP (12.8 at 113 mph)
2006 505 HP Z06 (11.7 at 125 mph)3130 pounds
2007 paddle shift 6 speed auto (12.7 at 113 mph)
2008 436 HP (12.4 at 116 mph)
2009 638 HP ZR1 (11.4 at 129 mph)
2011 505 HP Z06 carbon (11.9 at 123 mph)3300 pounds

now were just talking about 2000-2011!!!!

Complete shock and awe vehicle..We **** you in with this new speed demon that looks exactly alike rather you have the 47K 2005 or 120K 2009 ZR1, minus minor hood/fender changes ect. With the same interior minus emblem stitching..Then just as youve gotten used to it after about 18 months we bring somthing else out that looks the same but GASP...has 40 more HP!!!!

Viper on the other hand since 2000

2000 450 HP GTS and RT10 and 460 HP GTS ACR (12.2 at 119 RT10/GTS and 12.1 at 120 *ACR*)
2003 510 HP srt10 vert (12.0 at 121)
2006 510 HP srt10 coupe (12.0 at 121)
2008 600 HP vert and coupe and ACR (11.5 at 128)

The viper dosent need shock and awe or to reinvent it's self every 18 months to keep you interested. The 8.x Liter engine and LOW production numbers with wow factor styling are more than enough...

Go take a look on ebay and you will see a 2003 srt10 and 2006 Z06 sell for the same price. This tells you somthing

Vette is a great car..My buddy gave me a ride in his 520 rwhp C6Z06 last night (cam/intake/headers/exhaust and tune)..He did a few runs like that and then hit the SPRAY for 610 rwhp to let me feel the differance..It was BEASTLY!!!!! But when he dropped me off and I saw my srt10 in the drive way I knew their was no way I would trade.

Whoaaa GrassHopper..They arent just gonna leave you stock for stock...Were talking 2-2.5 carlengths back from say 50-140 mph..ActuaLLY FROM 50-70 MPH YOU'LL BE AHEAD BECAUSE OF THE TORQUE..THEN THEY WILL CATCH YOU AND PASS..

Speed is important...No getting around that..But honestly..Would you want a 2006 z06 or 2006 srt10 or F360???? The vette and Viper are both faster and probally will put up quicker lap times as well...But the Holy Sh*t factor is all for the f360...Me..Id take the F360 all day

Dont get wrong. Vettes ARE GREAT cars. They are Americas Sports car.. No doubt about it. And the ZR1 is an absolute animal.. I mean, Ive driven and owned fast cars. But the ZR1 is insane!!!! The power comes on soo smooth, its dangerous. AND, without the vette, we might not even have the Viper. And we DEFINATELY, would not have a 600 Horse Viper.

But for me, the choice is the Viper.. I like the unique presence the viper has, that the corvette just does not.. And I think if this is a decision, you should go for the vette. No disrespect to the Vette. But they are such different cars.. Either you WANT a Viper, or you don't. I think for many here, the vette was the stepping stone, to get to the viper. I had a dozen vettes before I got my first VIper

I didn't realize that Gen II and Gen III were that close in the 1/4 in both time and MPH.
