Vegas has already been done. Twice actually. The second time (VOI. 9) I got married while out there. Right coast should be the next VOI.

I just got back from a business meeting in Detroit...I have never, ever seen potholes and road surfaces so bad. The potholes were really ***-trenches, they went all the way across the road, no way to avoid not driving through them. And the best part is they are always in multiples, I counted up 8 of these missing strips of road in a 50 meter section of street.

So for the people that live in Detroit, do they patch these roads up every Spring so they are driveable? With cities not having much of a buget to fix things, I would think the roads aren't going to be too great. Let hope I'm wrong.

Just another plug... Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL is hosting the Honda Indy Grand Prix this weekend... so there will probably be some good footage of the place on television!

Oh, and Alabama International Raceway (1/4 mile dragstrip) is about 30-40 minutes away and they're very accommodating.

Way to go John. That would be amazing since Chicago Land Speedway is only 20 minutes from my house and about 5 minutes from my work. First year viper owner and to have VOI in my back yard would be the ****.

A well-traveled person would educate you otherwise on this cosmopolitan city. As "Hog Butcher to the World" gives it an occasional 'air' but better be careful esp since you've never been...

And relative to a VOI-event, as an air hub to the world, CHI has relatively inexpensive air fares, and can be reached in ONE FLIGHT from major cities of the US and the world.

When possible I think it would be really cool if the VCA could put an Ipod shuffle in everyone's goody bag with a VOI 12 soundtrack, complete with adapter kit for their own specific generation Viper. Sorta like the list I put together for the VOI 11 DVD dividing the journey in sections with spot-on music

OH before I forget: NO MORE RINGER KARTS!! And one or more warm up laps after tires have been changed because on one stint I kept spinning out with cold and fresh rubber

Also, how on earth was it decided to offer more automatic cars than manuals at the SRT experience?? Please keep it to manuals only this time around!

That is because I was so pissed they wouldn't do burnouts For the life of me I can still not figure out what that one person did to let the dark blue automatic 300C SRT-8 smoke the rears the way it did!

I'm having a kicked back day today, so I created this map with the help of 72Hemi's VOI map. Thought it would be fun to see where the concentrations of Viper Owners are. Maybe something like this can help with future event planning.

Red push pins are previous VOIs. (I only picked red because its easy to see on the green map... LOL)

You can add your basic location to the map by clicking edit. Grab a pin and drop it near your location. Once you've dropped a pin you can change the color to your choice of Blue, Orange, Green, Teal, Yellow, Purple, Red. Don't add a screen name if you don't want to.

Viper Owners - Google Maps


EDIT: Go to the map, log into Google then click on your area, click "edit" then right click on your area a box will pop up to place a pin. You can then type in a name or screen name or leave it blank. click again on the place marker to change the color of your pin.

I'm getting a few questions on how to do this. I don't mind helping drop a pin... just let me know where and what color.

No insult was made, and I think you might have misunderstood his warning.
I took it as Chicago has its good sides and its BAD sides and if you have never been to Chicago, you definately DO NOT want to find your self on the bad side.
Much like DC. Its nice if you stay in the right areas, but it could cost you more than you want to spend if you get lost around there.

On a plus to that, Chicago Land Speedway isn't actually in Chicago. It is about 40 minutes south of Chicago in a much smaller town called Joliet. I have already started thinking about where the parking could be and it just so happens there are a couple of good parking garages very close to the tracks that could be taken which is right next door to a gambeling boat.
Also there are some large banquet halls in the area as well.
We have two major airports that are both easy to get in and out of, but my suggestion would be Midway since it is nowhere near as busy as O'hare and its about 15 minutes closer to the track with a lot less traffic.

So if Chicago is "an armpit of America" go a little farther and find the Breasts and smile

This is the right information that should be included with...Hey, how about Chicago or Cuba or Switzerland. I was hoping that someone would chime in and say that the track(s) are not in the bad parts of town and there are very large hotels nearby...that's what is needed for a VOI.

I didn't attend the last Detroit VOI, but I've heard that it wasn't the safest environment.

So far the new map has been populated with people in western Canada or the west coast, which adds more reason that the next one should be further west being that more than half of the VOI's have been east of Texas.

There are ~2000 VCA members and only 73 pins (so far). Over half of them are in Canada. It almost seems like an email went out to the SoCal and Western Canada members about this, thus resulting in heavy concentrations from those areas.
If the membership list is stored in a SQL-based database, it would be easy enough to do something like:
select region,count(*) from members group by region order by 2
That would give a list of the regions and the number of members per region in sorted order. Then you can look at things from a geographic point of view based on actual membership.

I figured I would be the first to start the discussion since no one else seems to be posting about it yet and because to me VOI 11... well... tears of pure joy start to appear in the corners of my eyes from all the deeply cherished and beautiful memories

We will be celebrating 20, yes TWENTY years of Viper, a number of memorable successes in racing, and 5 generations plus (hopefully!) the first production units of an all new model. With the latter in mind I say we go back to where the first model was introduced to mark this historic and monumental birthday:

Central location which should increase attendance in these economically troubled times, and because of "our" birthday we could pace the Indianapolis 500 with all Vipers in attendance, lol.

If I may, I'd like to add to the discussion.

I produce a charity event in Orlando, FL each year. I've been doing it for 10+ years, mostly by myself. We only have a few hundred attendees, but the basics are essentially the same.

Our first event was in NY and that one turned out okay as it was pretty small.
The plan was to move the event around the country (and world, which we did) so that more folks could attend.
In 2000 we went to Vegas. Holy crap was that expensive. Not only is it a ******** union town (no offense to the union guys), but $80 to turn on a light switch? If we get past that, there was the $1000+ we had to drop just to get permits and licenses to hold the small one-day event inside the Stardust.
That year it cost us over $7000 to put on the event.

After much discussion, Orlando became the location:
- TONS of hotels and ballrooms for the event. In every price range too.
- Attractions out the ying-yang for those who didn't want to come to our event, or just wanted to jack around for the day until the show that night.
- Beaches within 40 minutes.
- Non-union town.
- Great Chamber Of Commerce with awesome event staff.
- CHEAP airfare from almost every major city in the U.S.

Now it costs us about $2000-$2500/yr. to put on the event, and it's extremely well attended. You will NEVER be able to please everyone, but as long as you show you've thought things out, almost all of them understand.

I am NOT suggesting Orlando as a location for VOI-12.

I merely wanted to point out to folks (and the organizers?) that there's more to putting on event than having a kickazz track near a 4-star hotel.
Though, that is a huge plus for this event.

- Not every Viper owner is a 28 yr. old single male. Most of them have families, so the location needs to have something for the wife/husband/kids to do while we're all shredding tires.
- Track is required; the closer the better.
- Non-track/scenic drive route is required.
- LARGE hotel is required for the dinner(s). The nicer the better.
- Not every Viper owner is a kabillionaire. So there needs to be Super8-type hotels/motels nearby for guys on a stricter budget.
- Easy in/out. Many will come with just the car, but many will also come with trailers. Some will come with semi trailers. And a few will come with several semi trailers. Major highways nearby is a good thing.

I think Indy and Daytona are great options as long as you're not there the week before or during the big races, or bike week (unless you have a running Tomahawk)
Chicago could be cool too. I'd love to meet Abe Froman and visit Shermer High School.

Count me in for VOI-12, regardless of location.

It's good info to collect, I agree. As pins get added, it looks like the population info (density) will become harder to evaluate... anyone volunteer to generate something like a "heat map" graphic overlay? Or 3D transform?

Out-of-the-blue guesstimate: 75% of eventual VOI attendees are members of (and participants in) this website. Is that accurate?
