ok, I guess we have different criteria of what a quality SUV is and its purpose. Tell me about the towing capacity, off road ability, ride on the street, comfort, etc. Bob, lets be serious in bringing up a modded Jeep as a point of reference. What you show is impressive, but not sure how relevant to the point. I get it, you will buy American at all costs. I get it. But don't confuse that with being the best product.

Just a little reminder of what a Jeep SRT8 with less than 10K in mods (put on by the dealer) did against a Renntech tuned BMW X5M - a far more expensive car. Note the E.T. difference and the weather conditions. I beat him by the same margin in at least four other runs where there was no red light. The car has been supercharged for 30,000 miles - all trouble free. It was only at the strip that one time. I wanted to see what she would do.

The second video shows her standing mile performance. Nothing in her category came close and she beat quite a few cars. This was also a one time outing.

I hope that a positive displacement kit for the Gen V as relaible as Vortech's centrifugal kit has been for my Jeep is eventually produced. That would be a wonderful achievement.

Sorry, but you rarely make sense.
Salem said he passed on a 458 Italia to drive a Viper...even though he had the funds to purchase the 458. I sarcastically quipped "yeah me too"....only I passed on a Laferrari to drive a Viper. Not many people are at my level of dark sarcasm so I forgive your confusion.

The rumor and likelihood of an 800 hp supercharged Viper has the competition sh*tting bricks on their sites and forums. First Dodge STUNNED the Hot Rod and sports car world by building and releasing a 707 hp insane Hellcat Challenger....so now the competition is taking Dodge serious again. Hell..if the rumor is 800 hp, Dodge might actually build a 825-840 hp Viper with the ACR coming in at 850-875 hp...yes....these numbers seem insane...but so did 707 hp for the Challenger just 6 months ago. But Dodge built it and you can walk into any dealership and order one.

Vette guys are arguing amongst themselves about how this Viper will kick the ass of anything Chevy does with the Vette....kinda like we were arguing amongst ourselves when the C7 Z06 hp numbers were released. Several Vette guy are saying an 800 hp Viper will be absolutely irresistible if the price is not outrageous....and this is EXACTLY the kind of buzz Dodge/Chrysler and Viper needed to bring excitement back to the brand.

I'm telling you guys right now....if Dodge builds an 800 hp Viper with all the handling ability of the TA and/or the ACR (which even the Vette guys admit was a beast at the Gring) and offers an automatic transmission....THIS IS A GAME CHANGER folks....this is a game changer.

Just like the Gen 1 was a game changer in 92...this new rumored Viper with its American heritage, its lines, its culture and lineage, and loyal customer base....if priced right will have an 18 month to 2 yr waiting list and redefine the standards of performance for the sports car industry.

GOOOOOOO VIPER!!!

SRT can easily get 800 hp out of a very mildly boosted V10.
We know the internals can handle it...Ralph is on record as saying so.
IMO, anything < 900 hp would be something of a cop-out.

You are absolutely right.
I think EVERYONE, including Mopar fans, was rocked off their feet by the Hellcat.:omg:

I agree with you. I really wanted an SRT8. I liked the sound, the look, the trim in the new ones, and the performance. Then I drove an AMG ML63. There was not a single thing about the SRT8 that was better - not handling, not performance, not trim (not even in same league), or to drive. Sure, one was a $200k car new, the other a $90k car new (over here), but the price reflects the difference in quality. I spoke with an owner of the previous and new generation SRT8s before buying my ML and he had quality control issues with both. He would never buy another. The hemi is a great engine, but Jeep is plagued by poor assembly, bits fell off, and the new one had headlights fill with water.... had it fixed under warranty and did it again. My AMG has done 120,000 miles and still makes 514hp and drives beautifully without a rattle.

The Viper I would hope is in another league re quality control to the Jeep.

Love the idea of a blown Viper. Prefer twin turbos of course, but some boost is better than no boost.

I hope a OEM supercharged Viper will go centrifugal like the latest Procharger (which can be clutched). They can build efficient top end power with less heat soak, and keep torque down to usable and sane levels for trans life at lower rpms.

An intercooled V10 could make 900hp at just 6lb boost at current state of art levels of blower efficiency (centrifugal). A centrifugal will also mount lower to keep center of gravity down and retain the hood clearance.

Going to a PD blower like the Hellcat is going to be burn out city, add top end weight, and require both a power bulge and loss of the brace. It will also be very ******* a trans with all the bottom end torque a PD blower makes. A PD blower is perfect on the Hemi, but a Viper should use a Centrifugal IMO. = better intercooler options, lower CG and clearance, a huge top end that everyone can use without the tire wasting throttle pedaling a PD 8.4L motor will require to move out quickly.

Never had a problem with my G1 SRT8.
Drove the poop out of it too for 25,000 miles.
Granted, the chassis is harsh (common for a solid axle rear-end).

Definitely.

And now that we have tuning for the gen5, the sky is the limit on modding. If we see a FI kit from Arrow or Mopar, the guys looking for huge numbers will be set.

With tuning now available the guys who want more power thru bolt on's but not FI, can do just that.

We're at a tipping point of making nearly everyone happy - aftermarket tuning for any mods, potential kit for FI for ungodly power, and NA perf from factory for track rats and those not looing to get "complicated". I'm not sure how much better it could get, an we're more than half way there.

You know how people are: "What have you done for me lately?"

Just off the top of my head we are keeping Putin's advance out of Europe...

I think you are being much too conservative of what kind of power 5-6 lbs. of boost will generate...
If we apply it to the current 645 hp. V10, I believe we are looking at 850 hp. easy.;)

That sounds mostly right. Adding 6 lbs of boost is roughly equivalent to increasing engine displacement by 3.4 liters (40%). Factor in the mechanical losses incurred from turning the S/C and you're probably going to be right around 900 HP, or an extra 250 HP.

This is about the % of power increase we were able to achieve by supercharging Ford V8s back-in-the-day (in engines not really designed for SC).

I would still be excited and would purchase the 2016 Viper even if the supercharger was in the trunk of the car when I drove it off the lot. I just want a supercharged Gen V!

I heard it today from a very good source that the 2015.5 will have a centrifugal type supercharger which will be retrofittable for 2013-14 owners. But, know one thing for certain...it will not have 800HP...Marchionne will not allow it to have more HP than the Ferrari F12...it will NEVER HAPPEN. The Ferrari is still the world's most premium brand in Supercars/Sports cars and will NOT be upstaged by the American Viper. Still, a supercharged V10 sounds really interesting and fun and who's to say what you can mod that supercharger with tuning, headers, exhaust, and increased boost to produce? I am ordering a 2015 and expect delivery around March/April. Exciting news for certain...:)

lol

yeah right. your source is wrong.

Here are two compelling reasons why:

1. No spy shots of any refreshed Viper.

2. If Chrysler can't release a MOPAR PCM that is already completed now, what makes you think a supercharger kit is going to happen?

Ferrari Boss Left “Speechless” After Seeing The New SRT Viper

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, the current chairman of Ferrari and one of the key men responsible for turning the Italian sports car manufacturer into a global automotive powerhouse, was left “speechless” upon seeing the 2013 SRT Viper for the first time.

That little snippet of information was revealed by none other than Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne during an interview on the Paul W. Smith radio show.

“I had the chairman of Ferrari down here for the board meeting last week and he had a chance to look at the car, and he was speechless,” Marchionne said. “I mean for Ferrari to admit that the car is a unique vehicle is a hell of a compliment to the work that’s gone on here.”

Marchionne made the surprising revelation when questioned about production activities taking place at Chrysler facilities in the Detroit area. He said that production of the new 2013 SRT Viper had just commenced at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant and that so far things were doing well.

For someone like di Montezemolo, who is surrounded by some of the fastest and most desirable cars on the planet, to be left speechless after seeing the new Viper is testament to the hard efforts made by the car’s development team and the people that build it.

We’re sure its 8.4-liter V-10 engine, rated at 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque and billed as having the most torque of any naturally-aspirated sports car engine in the world, may have had a little to do with his initial impression.

I heard from a reliable source that there will be no supercharger . In 2016 a ACR will available if sales do not pick up then that is it the viper is done.

After all the recent press about a supercharger option, real or fake, it will be a big letdown to both Viper nation and prospective buyers if there is none.

I heard straight from Ralph Gilles mouth that the superchargers are an in-house Arrow Racing experiment not related to the production Viper. He said he couldn't talk about any bump in HP in the production line. Likely the Arrow superchargers will be a aftermarket upgrade you can purchase, but not found on the production car. This is sad news IMO because now everyone anticipated the huge bump in HP and it may not be the case. However, it is still good news if it becomes a dealer installed option.
