Can someone direct me to a link for the best door poppers for my '94? Also, can they be hooked up utilizing my stock alarm transmitter? What should I expect ot pay for them? Are there different spring types, I want to swing the doors open as much as possible.

Thanks,

Dave.

I got door poppers on my car. You don't want the poppers to pop the door too far or else you might swing it and hit something. Don't think you can put it on your stock remote for it only has 2 buttons. I have a Viper alarm with door poppers (basically the trunk popper option). I am sure you can get any good alarm with more than 3 buttons to work. I paid about $700.00 for my alarm and door poppers. I think the option was $150.00 per door.

Try and check Viper alarms or clifford alarms. I am sure they have the options.

Don't bother with another alarm, the standard remote can be used (spare channel on the alarm module), my electrician/mechanic wired it in about 20 minutes, it worked great. Pressing the button, the drivers door popped out about 1ft

He used a Ford solenoid ($20) attached to lock, also had a wire attached to the lock passing through the door incase of remote failure or if I locked the keys inside with the roof/glass windows in, so I could still gain entry. Longest part of the job was getting the door panel.

Search the archives, there is info on this board. Even though I did it, it has been so long and worked so well, I've forgotten all the details. The solenoid I used was specifically for this application, also cost ~$20 and has a pull cable. Attach the cable to the latch, attach the solenoid to the door frame, and you're done. As Neil said, getting the panel off and running the wire takes the longest.

I suggest you run a ground wire from the door to the frame. Occasionally the ground doesn't seem to connect through the door hinge and I have to lean on the door to get the solenoid to energize.

How far open the door goes is a function of the door lock, since the popper only unlatches the door. To get the door to open further would require an additional solenoid?

My '94 has three button fobs. The system uses the stock alarm module and attaches the popper to unused pins. Since I have three buttons, I had the option of using the unlock button (alarm off) or the trunk button (did nothing originally) to open the door. What this tells you is you could have the unlock botton open the driver door and something else (passenger door or trunk) opened via the trunk button.

Should have been a factory option.

I went to my local car audio store and they installed them for $125. It took about 2 hours for them to complete the job.

The link to the: "How To" / "Illustrated Up updates" / "Door Solenoids" given above by 96 R/T 10, is what you want.
Email me and I will send you the Word documents with some installation tips, and a few pictures.
cost about $25.00 per door plus your labor.

I am curious to know from those of you who have added solenoids to both doors, ...
Does it not get annoying to first have to go to your passenger door and close it (assuming you are going somewhere by yourself), and then walk around to get into the drivers door?

It would be ideal if one could set this door popper system up, to pop only the driver door (say with one push of the button), and/or pop both doors (with two pushes of the button), similar to many newer cars with electric door locking systems (like my Ford Explorer for example)?

Is it possible to do this with a Viper (specifically for me, a Gen I)? If so, any ideas or instructions as to how?

THOR,
That is exactly the way you connect the door pops:
Only the drivers door is connected to the key fob through the alarm, and I connected the passenger door to a push button switch provided in the kit. I mounted it in the panel above your knees, on the left side, kinda below the light switch. I use it to open for a passenger.

The 2 push is not an option on our key fobs/alarm, and remember the 1 push/2 push key fobs only unlock the doors (my Chrysler Town and Country has this), this system actually opens the door.

Ahhh, OK thank you Don. So being the gentlemen that we all are, it sounds as though we have to pop the driver door, open it enought to "pop" the passenger, then run around the car to open and close the passenger door for our lady(ladies).

It would certainly be great if someone could make a system that works with our Vipers that would allow a "one push of the button" driver door "pop", and a "two push of the button" both door "pop".

 Maybe we can make this a challenge to any of our electrical engineering buddies on VCA? :)

Thor:
My system that I have set-up can pop one door at a time, depending on which buttons I push. I guess that was why I thought you can't use the stock alarm remote.

So I can actually open the door for the ladies and then open my door after... ;)

Viper23,
There are some key fobs that have a "trunk" button, or a 3 button fob; this must be what you have, and yes one can be for the driver side, and the other for the passenger side, and of course the lock button.
STUGOTS,
Gen 2's are electric doors, and gen1's are mechanical, complete with a rod that runs from the door handle to the door latch mechanism.
THOR,
You could install another push button on the passenger side, reach in and push it from the passenger side, open the door for the lady ----naaah.
The stock alarm wire panel has a trunk latch send, so if you have a three button key fob, you can do the passenger, and driver side to operate from the fob.

ruckdr - You have a very nice looking 96 RT by the way!!
Thanx for your post.

What year(s) was the Dodge 3 button remote available, as I have never seen one. Would a 3 button remote be able to be programmed to my 95 RT instead of the current 2 button?

I have a 94. The info in the how to section is right on!!! I used power lock motors out of a tempo, works great!! I bought an extra lock fob from the local dodge dealer for about 50 bucks, three function. The "unlock" button opens the drivers door, the "trunk" button opens the pass. door and the lock button arms the alarm. Always push the unlock button first if the alarm is activated otherwise the alarm will go off. I would think you can reprogram your 95 system to accept the three function fob?????? First thing I did to my viper and I love it!!!!!!

THOR,
Thanks,
I don't know what gen1's have 3 button fobs; mine is 96- 2 button, my son-in-law had a 95 - 2 button; it may have been 'what was on the shelf at the time'. Now can a 3 button be programmed, I have no idea; chances are the alarm has the trunk latch send, however. This is verifiable if you look at the wire diagram as shown in the "How To"/"Illustrated Upgrades", and compare to your plug at the alarm; mine has the trunk send as shown in the "How To"/"Illustrated Upgrades", but no way to use it.

SNAKBIT,
You said: "I bought an extra lock fob from the local dodge dealer for about 50 bucks, three function."
You must have then programmed it to your alarm - correct??
Both channels??
Did the 3 button fob you bought have a part number??
Could you post the procedure for the programming of the new fob ??

Don, the part # is----04469341 it has "unlock", "lock", and the trunk open symbol. I programmed it with the directions in the "how-to" section with the green wire. I think your car does it the same way. The local dealer had them in stock, price around 50 bucks.

good luck,
Mitch

The how-to section describes the process perfectly. My '93 had the 3 button remote, but I may use one of the buttons included in the kit and wire it so that I can open the passenger door even if the Viper is running (would need to run a wire from a keyed hot source.)

I did not try this, but I thought that I read that you can wire so that pressing the door button twice would allow you to open the passenger door. The only issue that you have wehn using the trunk button on the 3 button remotes is that you must open the driver door first to disable the alarm.

My poppers (even though they were the heavy duty) do not swing the door open a foot like you are looking for. There is a small spring that could be added to accomplish this. Not sure where you mount it though.

ruckdr - Thank you. You have a PM at your "comcast.net" address.

Rocket62 - Very nice 93! Who chromed your 3 spokes? Are you happy with the quality? How much did each wheel cost to chrome?
Also, where did you get your "chrome look" badges?
Thanx in advance!

Now back to the door poppers...

...I am going to check with my dealer tomorrow about getting the 3 button remote(s). Thanks guys!

Thor,

Thanks for the compliments! Don't know who chromed the 3 spokes as I bought the Viper with them already on. I always loved the classic look of the 3 spokes but the grey just doesn't do it for me. Chrome badges are a standard part from Dodge - call Chuck Tator.

Rear badges are my next "poser" mod until I figure out how to hide the investment in a ROE SC from the wife.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but will this work on a 2000 gts. The reason I ask is because the damn outside door knob does not work on my car. I would love to have something that would, and maybe this would be the ticket.

Hate to hash up an old thread. But does anyone have the install instructions for this? I am a member and linked my account but it won't give me access to the how to. Tried to reach out to the admins and have not heard back.

Joshua, when you say "member"...do you mean of the forum or the VCA. In the past, the Illustrated Upgrade section was for VCA members only...though I am not certain how it works today.

If you post your email address, it may be possible that someone might be able to locate the text and send it to you.
