Cover or duster in garage?

I have always used a cover inside my garage and it seemed like it served me well. Lately, when I have taken the cover off my black viper, I see contact marks where it is stretched arond corners, etc. Being black, I am concerned it will start smudging the paint. I have a new duster and would need to use it every other day to keep the dust off the car before it gets too dusty to use the duster, otherwise I would need to wash it. I am wondering which is the least harm of both, either dusting it every other day and risking scratching it or covering and uncovering it and riscking scratching it.

We always covered our BLACK '05 SRT. Didn't UNcover it frequently, do you? If you DON'T, I'd think a cover would be better than dusting it off.....and believe me we KNOW how BLACK gets~! ALWAYS shows the dust. Our cover was just a TAD loose, so no smudges/tightness. Just my .02.....juli

Not sure what your "cover procedure" is, but make sure that you dust the car before you put the cover back on the car. Most of the contact marks come from either dust left on the car while putting the cover on or dust/dirt that's already gotten on the cover that's sliding over the car while the cover goes on.

I stopped using my cover. Even after the car was washed and the cover cleaned (vacuumed) before covering the car, I noticed dust on the car after a week or two of just letting it sit under cover. Had the same concerns about "sanding" the paint when taking the cover off.

I agree. I stopped using a cover car (had a good one) because it put fine scratches on the car. California Dustter all the way.

I pick Duster.

:eater:

Was that helpful? :dunno:

I would not mind having a nice 340 Duster. My brother had a 72 340 Duster and my cousin had (2) 69 340 Swingers. Those 340 swingers were BAD.

Don't dusters scratch the paint too?

How about building "chamber" and attaching a small vacuum pump or a very good dust filter to **** all/most of the air out? :D

Jokes aside, I reckon it could be done for relatively cheap if you get creative..

Sure, car dusters can scratch when dirt/crud accumulates on it and you sit on it why going over the car. If it gets dirty, toss it out, get a new one.

An air compressor is also an option...turn it ov and blow the dust off the car as well out of those hard to reach areas. I use my leaf blower.

You can buy a Car Bubble for the price of a high end car cover: CarCapsule: The Ultimate Car Cover If you search this site, I think you'll find some Vipers in the car bubble like this one:

The duster work very well even on a black car. The whole trick is to let it pick up the dust rather than you pushing down on it to use it. A very light touch is what works best.

That's what i do as well.. a quick light touch rubdown of the car then put the cover on ... i really like the viper cover that came with the car....Also if u just do a basic wax job on the car once a month it makes the dirt/dust come off much easier...

Actually, if I recall correctly, this was a fellow Viper owner's winter storage solution. Winter meaning sub-zero temperatures, snow, ice and brimstone. This was not for daily storage.
