Do you think the prices for used vehicles will go up. I remember when the Ford GT was discontinued. Prices went from $125k to $150K within 2-3 months....

The reason the Ford GT basically has maintained its value is the EXTREMELY LIMITED numbers of them out there (probably less than 1200 total produced EVER )there are just too many Vipers out there to compare them not too mention the Ford GT is mid engined alum frame ect more exotic ect.

I think we will see an increase then prices will stabilize. If '09 is the last year people will long for the old fashioned 'power muscle' cars and the Viper will be in demand. Especially the genIII and IV.

I hope they go up and we're still able to get parts.

Parts...that's it! Whether prices go up or down I don't really care....the Viper is not an investment for me. It's a depreciating asset with the only appreciation being my enjoyment of it. If it ever becomes worth more than what I paid for it then it may happen LONG after I die. In the meantime, **** value...I want to enjoy it. The way I see it, the only thing coming between me and my enjoyment of my Viper is the availability of parts...what good is highly valued Viper if there are no parts for it. :dunno:

Stripe delete cars are very rare. My all black stripe delete with options is one of only 3 built. GT40s should hold their value long term. But you never know, i just drive mine and enjoy. I buy cars to enjoy not for investment.

For some reason I like the Ford GT better without stripes. Black without stripes looks great! :2tu:

Popularity, rarity and even the economy are all part of any car's value.

I do plan to wear mine out, then wear out another one exactly the same as this one I hope.

Yah, parts would go up in costs. The avaiabilty will ebb and flow, just like it does now. Aftermarket parts are around but I don't think the factory has much of anything for Gen 1 and 2s. When I needed a headgasket Chrysler had 1 in Toronto and 1 in Montreal, but Jonb sent a pair plus gaskets to me the same day I called him. Can't imgaine parts being harder to find than only 2 headgaskets for over 1,000 cars in the entire country.

I like the Ford GT better without stripes as well.
As far as the Viper and future value, I'm in the I don't care I just want to drive and enjoy the car for a very long time to come department. Part availability is really my only worry.
If you don't already have an old car you don't have any idea what you're in for. I mean it's not the obvious parts like motor, pistons, transmissions, etc. that will drive you crazy. That stuff is easy. It will be the little trim parts, or a particular bracket or retaining pin or bolt. The things nobody thinks of. Or the things that usually don't need replacing, so nobody ever makes them, then you find yourself in need of this critical piece and you , my friend, are f&%ked. That's real life with a collector car.

My guess would be less than typical depreciation % than other cars but likely to drop. Cars are a horrible investment if your soley banking on holding onto it and plan on selling it later at a mark up.

parts will be around for a long time

Gawd, I wish Ford would have continued building those cars, except with a non-supercharged huge CID motor. What a terrific car they built. :2tu: FORD.

wow-per year thatis more production than the viper

No; that was total production and includes all International shipments.

Then subtract from this number greater than 500 that have gone the hard way and then from that those folks that own more than one which is many; in fact some have one of every color and then available units becomes truly very small.

Takes care

I have a black Z06 and it's definitely a PITA to keep looking good. It's a good thing I like detailing my cars. One of my neighbors has a dark blue Ford GT with stripes. When he first got the car I use to see his youngest son walking on top of it.:(

GBS I like the Z cars they are fast and light. What year do you have?

It's a 2008. I also have a 2004 yellow Gallardo. I have been thinking about getting a 997 Turbo. Looks like we like a lot of the same cars. You have a great collection.

Nice list! I would hope there are enough Vipers out there to make it profitable for some companies to keep manufacturing parts.

Yeah, we have a lot of the same cars. The Z looks stunning...what polish do you use? Also, what do you use to get the swirl marks out? Nice collection yourself.

I'm just hoping the gen1 viper's dont go up beyond my price range. I understand some of you dont like the fact that your cars have gone down in value but uh...thats what cars do.

For getting swirls out I perfer Menzerna polishes. The one of choice depends how bad the swirls are. I always finish it up with one of their micro polishes. All use either my Flex random orbital polisher or my Metabo Rotary Polisher. The rotary polsiher gets the job done faster but you must be careful not to burn the paint. The picture of the Z06 was taken a couple of weeks after I applied Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax. I use Souveran Paste Wax a lot. Looks very good and black, red and deep yellow paint. I also like Swissvax Concorso paste wax. I enjoy detailing my cars. It's a nice change of pass from my line of work. Here's a link to a detail I posted on my Viper a while back:
