Thermostat housing leaking - what else to service?

Now is the time to go to the 170 Degree thermostat, then you can get a DC Performance upgraded Computer (which requires the lower temp unit) and you will get a much faster, smoother Viper that runs cooler also.

How much play if any is there supposed to be on a gts acr?

Take the car to a GOOD Alignment Shop and have them check it. Most instability problems are due to alignment issues, providing the tires are not worn unevenly. In my experience on my Vipers (2 Gen II, 2 GenIII) alignment makes a huge difference in how they go down the road.

Lifting Hood After Driving Due To Heat

Leaving the hood open for awhile after a drive can only be a benefit for any performance car, old or new.

    ECU tune for Gen III's

    2000 ACR Suspension set-up

My 2001 ACR had the stickers on the adjustment knobs also, but the settings were all over the place. We have a shock dyno, and I realize that sometimes different settings are required to get shocks to show the same dyno results, but these were just too "out of line". In any case, I posted what...

    2000 ACR Suspension set-up

If your car has Dynamic Suspension Shocks, try these settings: Front: Bump-- Full Soft Rebound-- 12 clicks froim Full Hard Rear: Bump-- Full Soft Rebound-- 12 clicks from Full Hard I find this very acceptable for the street, as I never "track" my car. However, I am...

Did the CAAP re-open as scheduled?

My understanding is that Saleen is the body panel supplier, and they are for sale and have been closed for some time. That's all I know about the situation.

    Green or Red brakes?

I have used Hawk HPS (high performance street) on all our cars for years. They are great, very low dust, good for limited track usage and great stopping power. I have them on four Vipers now.

    Frame Recall Question

Do a search, as I posted in the past how I was able to just get the kit from my dealer and set it aside so if I ever needed it, I would have it. I was able to also get a complete printout of the 96 pages of instructions and did my own inspection, found no problems. But I now have the kit, should...

Get your Vipers while you can...

i was told by a dealer that the Viper Plant had closed due to inability to get body parts from Saleen. Since Saleen is for sale and may be on its last legs, what happens to Viper if they can no longer get the parts to finish the cars.

viper newb with a few questions

A lady friend of mine just traded her 2003 with 74,000 miles in on a new 2009. Her car is well cared for and she does not race it, but it was just like a new car at that mileage. Vipers easily can be used as a daily driver. Just like all cars, it depaends on how they are maintained and treated.

Rattling noise from the center of the dashboard? Need your help.

This is a fairly common problem. There are some threads related to solving the rattle. You remove the center defroster grille and smooth off parts of the defroster air defuser to get more clearance between the defuser and the grille. The factory started doing this to some of the cars, but yours...

    HELP: Radiator Drain -Refill Proceedure

I agree compleetey with All Blue ACR, in my experience, I would not even try to remove the Allen Plug at the lower drivers side bottom of the radiator. I have seen numerous radiators ruined by people who tried to remove the plug and damaged or distorted the radiator tank. Just loosen the hose...

Weight: Gen 1 vs. Gen 2???

Actual race scale weights, all cars with no fuel or driver, but with spare tire and normal equipment. All cars dead stock! 2006 Coupe: 3,342 lbs. 2005 SRT10: 3,318 lbs. 2001 ACR: 3,355 lbs. 1996 GTS: 3,327 lbs.

    Removing the shift lockout?

Call DC Performance and purchase their upgraded computer for your car. Along with the increased performance, lower engine temperatures and smoother runing, you will also have the skip-shift feature disabled. Then you can shift the car any way you like. Their computer upgrade is the best upgrade...

    Lifter sound

I have four Vipers and they all make some lifter sound on start up, but all vary somewhat in length of time the noise lasts. Just watch the oil pressure gauge. As the pressure comes up, the sound should go away. Also, as others have said, there is always some injector "clicking" in these cars...

Possibly picking up an 03 SRT... advice please

After you get the car, remove the sun visors. It makes the upper windshield area seem less restrictive and feels less claustrophobic when driving with the top down. Just buy it, it sems a great price for the condition and life is short.

    dash rattle in 08 vert

To take the grille out, use a putty knife. Start at one end where you can get under the grille, slide the knife along one side and the grille will peel right out. I really is much easier then you think it will be. When you remove the scrrews, be sure to stuff paper towels into the defroster vent...

Best covered transport for cross country Viper shipping

I have used both Passport and Intercity over the last 25 years without problems. I tended to use Passport more just because I got to know the people there, but now that Fedex has bought out Passport, most of the good drivers left and went to Blue Highways. So I would recommend Blue Highways for...

    Aftermarket Tune ?

I have two Gen II and two Gen III Vipers, all bone stock except for the DC Performance upgraded computers. Dramatic difference! Significant performance increase in the lower and mid-range levels. Combined with the 170 degree thermostat you get cooler running, more power, smoother engines and on...

    Gasoline Question...

Tom: Sorry I did not reply sooner, but my steam driven internet service has been down on and off this week. My comment about the 1-3% power loss on the dyno for ethanol was based on testing of carbureted race engines . My business is vintage race cars, and we dyno every engine we build. We do...

    Gasoline Question...

No problem with 10% ethanol, Chrysler tests this fuel mix and says in the owners manual that it is fine for these cars. In actual testing, we have found that the engines run slightly cooler internally due to the alcohol providing additional cooling in the intake tract, also the lower energy...

Squeaky brakes and high idle when hot, need advice...

The stock brake pads rarely squeak, so I would suspect a previous owner put a different pad on the car. Get some Hawk HPS pads, great brakes, low dust, no squeak. You can find them on ebay, or check Rolling Start Auto Parts on the internet. They were the best prices I found.

    1999 ACR pros and cons?

Don't expect your ACR to go up in value a lot over the next few years, but eventually, the ACR will see a significant increase in value. They are among the rarest of all the Viper varients. All Vipers are underpriced right now, but this will change, especially if Chrysler stops production, and...

    Ticking at start up

It is most probably the hydralic lifters filling up with oil and then taking up the clearance in the valve train as oil pressure builds up. When some engines set for a length of time, the lifter "bleeds down" and the valve train clearances open until the motor is fired and the oil pressure again...
