11.18 @ 125...Ported Heads, Stock Cam, Drag Radials...how\'s it compare?

I finally got to make some passes this weekend on Nitto Drag Radials (315/35/17's) in my '98 GTS. Other than spinning pretty bad on the 1-2 shift, I was pretty impressed. I was just curious how my times compared to those with similar mods?

Mods as follows:

QMP Ported heads w/2.02/1.60 valves
T&D Roller Rockers
Roe VEC1
Corsa 3" exhaust with off-roads (but I added 2 extra mufflers, for a total of SIX!)
Stock Cam
Stock Manifolds
Stock Clutch
Stock TB's
Full weight

Timeslip as follows:
R/T .004
60' 1.663
330 4.721
1/8 7.227
mph 99.34
1000 9.379
1/4 11.187
mph 124.66

*I have video of this pass, which I will post to my website later tonight.

Any idea how much I'll pick up by adding Borla or ****** long tube headers? Has anyone went 10's with a similar combination?

Sorry for so many questions....

That is one awesome run! Any idea how much power you are putting to the ground? Trap speed indicates around 475-500 at the wheels, but that ET is freaking AWESOME.

May I recommend upgrading your half-shafts if you havent done so already? they have been snapped on stock tires before, and with running stickier tires on a modded car, it might be worth the 800-1300 bucks for the peice of mind.

Thanks guys! QMP = Quarter Mile Performance. I just downloaded the video, but I'm having trouble posting it to my site. I got hit by the virus a few weeks ago and lost a lot of my webpage editing files.

I can email the video to anyone else who can host it for now. Or hopefully, I'll have it up later tonight.

that's a great time. But why don't you have headers since you did the heads already?

Great figures, great driving!!

That car is crying out for some decent headers and pipes - those heads must be very very good. I'd think you should see an honest 35-40hp by upgrading the full exhaust. Others have.

This is Rob from V10 Nats, right?

I see you got the car dialed in. Definetly a good time from your head package. That car looked really strong in BG.

Hope all is going well

Re: 11.18 @ 125...Ported Heads, Stock Cam, Drag Radials...how\'s it compare?

I just wanted to see how fast I could go before adding the headers. We ported the heads and added the Corsa prior to the Nats, but didn't do anything to adjust the tuning at that time. Since then, I've added the VEC1 and a set of Drag Radials, and it really woke the car up.

Yes John Smith (is that your real name?), it's me. 11.76 @ 118 for your car? Wow..sounds like you've really got your car running good too.

Great numbers Rob!

Don't know if you remember me, I'm Sam from LV F-body that used to have the Millenium Yellow TA. Met you at SEMA a while back.
Are you guys going to be selling those heads?

Hey Rob, what wheels did you mount your Nitto drag radials on? Were they the stock front wheels?

Hey Sam, I remember you. I didn't know you bought a Viper...do you like yours as much as I like mine??
I'm not sure if we will be offering them or not. I've already got more on my plate right now than I can handle.

GTSnake - I am running Kinesis K17's, 17x10FR and 17x11Rear. They are actually my everyday tires. 126mph on street tires? So what all do you have done? Sounds impressive.

The video of the 11.18 pass should be up within the next 20 minutes or so. My website guy is adding it as we speak.

Follow the link under the "What's New" section of the Homepage at http://www.QuarterMilePerformance.com

Lemme know what you think. It's hard to tell with the quality of video, but it gets pretty sideways on the 1-2 shift. You can definitely hear it rip the tires loose. You can even hear the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts bark the tires. And that was with me lift-shifting! So I doubt power shifting it would have done much good on the Nitto's.

Yeah Rob, she's a stocker, but I am pleased. Good luck with the car and hope to see you soon.

Nice run, Rob! Was this the same setup you ran in KY? Quite an improvement over the 11.8's you ran at the Nats!

Hey Larry, yes it's the same exact setup, with the addition of a VEC1 and Drag Radials. At Bowling Green I was running stock tires and my clutch was slipping pretty bad. I replaced it with a new Luk(?) unit, and now it's also slipping when it gets warm.

Adam - We did the port work here. I'm just waiting for you to say "*******" and I'm there.

Try the new Spec (Star) clutch in your car, Rob. One of the benefits of utilizing a stock LUK clutch is that it will slip, whereas the Spec won't. That can be a bad thing though too since something else in the driveline will take a beating. Pump that car up and bring her to TX! BTW, I had a client interested in your turbo kit, but I never heard from you.

Re: 11.18 @ 125...Ported Heads, Stock Cam, Drag Radials...how\'s it compare?

I actually had a SPEC in the car, but couldn't get it to work at all. The car was always in gear. Replaced the slave, the master cylinder and all of the lines. Didn't fix change a thing. Then changed the clutch to the LUK unit, and all has been well. Except for the slippage when warm.

Not sure if I can make Texas or not. We are trying real hard to get the Z into the 8's in time for the Thunder Shootout. That's quite a task in itself. Which is one reason why the Viper has taken the backseat for a while.

Regarding the turbo kit, I wasn't aware you had interest in one. I had some serious family health issues which had me out of the store for nearly a month. Sorry if I missed your calls/emails. Give me a shout when you get some time.

As others have said, your MPH looks right on the money for your HP. I'd expect 20-30 HP from a good set of headers (I've used Belangers to good effect). The other thing you might consider is a set of rear gears - your trap speed isn't high enough to make you go to 5th, and since you drive around on DRs anyway a 3.55 rear gear would help the car get out of the hole more quickly.

The Spec clutch utilzes a cardboard spacer behind the slave cylinder for the F-Body and C5, so I bet there is a spacing issue causing your inability to disengage the clutch? From they way you describe the symptom, that is the area I'd address. From my past experiences with tilton, they require measurement and spacing since they're not a plug and play.

I'm sorry to hear about your family health issues, Lou told me what your going through and I knew that was why I hadn't heard from you. I hope it gets much better for you real soon!

Awesome time for your mods!

You must be registered for see images

Thats a hell of a stable you got there, 5 vehicles that seriously haul a$$. I'm guessing you've got bolt on's and nitrous on the 03' Cobra, b/c your numbers would be way higher with a Kenne Bell blower, a friend of mine has basically every bolt on and is about to install the KB blower.

Re: 11.18 @ 125...Ported Heads, Stock Cam, Drag Radials...how\'s it compare?

Thanks Larry. You hit the nail on the head with the clutch. I went back and forth with Dave at SPEC, but we have yet to get a clutch in our hands that works. He's still working on it I guess. BTW, tell Lou I said hi. He's a great guy.

Nope, the Cobra has a stock blower and no nitrous. I was actually the Fastest '03 Cobra at the NMRA World Finals last year. We build a 3" exhaust system for them and dyno tune them as well. Impressive cars...as hard as that is for me to say. ;)

Not sure about this weekend, unless you mean on Sunday. Probably taking the Z to Bowling Green Saturday.

That was me you saw. I was on my way to Beech Bend (which was when I made the 11.18 pass).

My cell number is 502-550-3999

I got it. I will call soon! Where is your shop? I could use some people here locally on advice and help on setting a S/C.

seeing as how this seems to be the silver gts board, thought I'd jump in and ask a question -- what were your dyno numbers before the heads (hp and torque)? and why the extra corsa's?

Strong run..

Re: 11.18 @ 125...Ported Heads, Stock Cam, Drag Radials...how\'s it compare?

The Tilton C/C clutch is a direct fit for the Viper. Takes flywheel/clutch weight from 65 pounds to 19pounds. Holds 1000+rwhp. We have run them in our supra's for 2 years with heavy street / strip / road race driving. I have over 15k miles on mine never had to add spacers and the car makes 725rwhp and 744rwtq. These clutches really are worth the price tag.
