doesn't page 4 say u can get the roadster in that color combo

Edit: Sorry, but this is an INTERNAL DCX document that was not to be published (and yes, the roadster can probably be ordered in that combo)

NO! The system will not let us order it that way!

NO, the system will not let them order it that way. :2tu::beer::1up:

This was based on the feedback we got from First Edition owners that wanted to protect their exclusivity. And SRT listened. So aside from those dealers that have to paint white stripes as aftermarket, all is right with the world. :D I know of one dealer that had 1/2 of their blue cars ordered "plain" with requests to paint white stripes at the dealership. It just isn't a factory option.

They should have either brought the coupe out with the 600HP or waited for the power bump.... like they did with the original GTS....

I don't see much exclusivity for the FE coupes since the new coupes got a huge power bump the next year out.... of course on the other side I really want blue/white, so I might go for it anyway.... :\

I'm a First Edition owner....nobody ever asked my opinion. With all the changes in the 2008 model, and with Dodge offering lots of options to let the owner custom build his car, I think blocking stripe colors is counter productive.

exactly, let the buyers buy what they want... they tout all of the ways to customize, then block combinations to protect 200 FE cars? Many of the FE owners are going to want the new coupe anyway....

there are so many "special" editions out there now that NONE of them are speical anymore....

the original blue/white was available for 2 years, as should the new coupes... :)

Actually, we polled all of the regional presidents, zone officers, and national board when we were all in Detroit in January. There was only ONE person that thought that blue/white should be offered in 2008 - everybody else voted against it, including several First Edition owners. We also posted it on these forums (can't find it but remember the commentary) and again the majority of First Edition owners were against it.

If they came out with yellow with black wheels and a black "fang" stripe on the hood I suspect you would have 50 very ********** 2005 VCA Edition owners. This one for sure. Maybe a Coupe would be okay (VCA Edition was strictly a Roadster), but that is about it. Likewise if you could buy white with blue stripes - it ruins the "exclusivity" promised those buyers when they bought the VOI 9 cars. There are really only five "exclusive" paint jobs out there in a particular body style:

2005 VCA Edition Roadster in yellow with black "fangs" hood stripe (50 made)
2005 Copperhead Roadster in copper with no stripes (300 made)
2006 VCA Edition Coupe in red with white stripes (50 made)
2006 First Edition Coupe in blue with white stripes (200 made)
2006 VOI 9 Edition Coupe in white with blue stripes (100 made)

The Copperhead is debatable for some, as it was more of an interior package with special wheels. The same copper color was available in 2006, at least for the Coupe.

The bottom line is that when we were promised "exclusive" paint jobs we expect that to be honored. Doesn't matter if somebody goes out and buys a blue coupe and paints white stripes or a yellow roadster with a black fangs stripe - after delivery. The idea is to again keep the factory cars exclusive when they were promised as such.

Personally, I think this was one of the very best things they could have done for owners and truly showed that they listen to our concerns. I don't think they will have any problem selling the 2008's as a result... :2tu:

Y2K,
Really nice post I didn't even know your car existed and was a one of fifty VCA car? I completely missed that one. Can you post some more pics and more information when you have some time? Really great color combo IMHO.

Thanks for posting the numbers on the special editions, it was very helpful.

I really like that color combo and technically you didn't hijack the thread since there is a blue/white second generation GTS in the bottom right hand corner of the picture.:)

I disagree. The "special" Sidewinder wheels are the only true performance mod(ie lighter weight=better hp/weight ratio) to be included on any of the limited edition cars. That savings definitely adds to it's credibility factor in my book. They are also the only exclusively styled wheel on any package.

Did the 05s like Y2Ks get built sequentially or were they numbered at random?

Also wondering why the black mamba's were not mentioned as special editions? Why start at 05 with the yellow VCA cars? Can someone go back to the second generation for a history of special edition Vipers? I can only remember special editions starting in 1995 with the first generation with the last 300 or so side exhaust cars? Then the hundred 98 GTS-Rs then the 360 2002 FEs? Then the Black mamba in 2004 is the next special edition I can think of before the 05 yellow cars. Not including the one off VCA raffle cars?

A complete list would be kind of a neat update from Maurice's book?

Perhaps we can extend the logic and have the 1995 Final 300 side exhaust cars cause DC to recall the 2003-2006 cars and put the exhaust out the back. :)

I agree with Y2K5SRT. Dodge did the right thing and listened to the owners and the VCA leadership! If you say it is exclusive then honor that. Cheers Dodge and the VCA

No worries, I would be the LAST one to diss a fellow Limited Edition! :2tu: My point was simply that the Copperhead didn't have a "unique" paint scheme but did have the unique wheels and interior. Note that I didn't mention the Mamba Editions at all, as they definitely didn't have unique paint, outside of the White Mamba. And that color was never promised to be exclusive, nor was the blue, yellow, red, etc. Quite frankly I am surprised they never revisited the color white, but the Viper is still in production so who knows...

See, that is where the logic fails: We agreed that if it was the SAME body style that it would be wrong to "duplicate" a special edition. Can you imagine if the last 360 GTS's produced in 2002 were white with blue stripes instead of red with white? Sacrilege! You would have had not only the current 100 GT2 owners screaming for blood, but just about every other Viper owner grumbling how they destroyed the "halo" effect of that particular car. But because they waited for an entirely new body style to revisit white with blue stripes, not a peep was made. No "last 300" guys worried about the SRT10 for the same reason.

You guys are just going to have to order blue cars and stripe them yourselves. :1up:
