:crazy2: USA Today, 3/28/12 announce the new Shelby Mustang to be introduced at New York Auto Show will be Supercharged "that puts out 1,100 hp with street legal version at 950 hp. They also state it has "an aluminun CRANKSHAFT". :dunno: Well, thats a new one on me. :nono: Plus an additional $149,999 to upgrade a GT500. So we're looking at a $200,000 Mustang. How many are going to run out and purchase ? Gonna make the new Gen V look like a real steal.

A 1000 hp, or even 2000 hp Mustang, is, at the end of the day, just a Mustang.

No one will think any more highly of it, when they see it going down the street, than they will of a regular Mustang.

Why didn't Ford build that GR1? Now that had some class...

It doesn't matter how much horsepower that thing has if it can't put it to the ground, unless it's gonna compete in a burnout contest. Might as well be a 7,000 hp car, or a non-street legal track package with 11,562 hp, or a limited edition with 19,670 hp. ----WHO CARES. at the end of the day it's still just a mustang. (just like the one down the street the 17 year old girl drives with a v6)

Listen to the engine and the drivability of that car with the power level. If you can't understand the engineering involved, then of course you will not get it.

Props to Ford for succesfully joining the 'production vehicle horsepower race' and making the Mustang something it should have always been. WE ARE LIVING IN THE GOOD OLE' DAYS RIGHT NOW!!! -911,R8,GTR,ZR-1,Z-06,458 Italia,GT-500,SRT,ZL1,CTS-V,Veyron,Zonda,Atom,Exige,McLaren,Lambo,VIPER!------ACR-X!!!!!! everybody's got something rude. I just can't get past Mustangs being EVERYWHERE in various forms. Unless you know what that car really is, its still the same as the 17 year old's down the street. I like Mustangs, but everybody in my town has got one. -Just no appeal for me. So I'll just keep my Viper, and have to be content with the lack of power.

I drive a Mustang now, for my daily driver. I wouldn't mind the extra power, but I just can't bring myself to buy another one.

Great car, for it's price point.

My 2006 mustang ran 10.00 at 136 mph in the 1/4, with a 76mm turbo and 22 lbs boost (sold to speed shop 2011). You can make any car do almost anything. But there are more than 1/2 million S197s out there. There were more S197s spawned in the first 3 months of 2007, than all the vipers since 1992. Not impressed with hp numbers alone.

Shelby Previews 1100-HP Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Named “Shelby 1000″ [New York Auto Show]

March 27, 2012 at 6:37pm by Alexander Stoklosa

If you had asked us yesterday which New York auto show debut would be the wildest, we’d have probably said the2013 SRT Viper. We may have to amend that prediction, because Shelby American is bringing a new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500–based model to New York called the Shelby 1000, and it will pack between 950 and 1100 hp. This isn’t the first horsepower-laden Shelby to debut in New York; last year the outfit brought the 800-hp GT500 Super Snake to the same show. Created as a celebration of 50 years of Shelby cars, the legend of which began with the Cobra in the 1960s, the 1000 joins the 650-hp 2013 Shelby GT500 in the Mustangs-made-from-testosterone club.

According to Shelby, the standard car puts out 950 hp on normal pump gas. The bonkers “S/C” version—which is for track use use only—spits out 1100 hp when fed race fuel. Both versions are based on the 2012 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which produces a measly 550 hp in stock form. In order to essentially double the output from Ford’s supercharged 5.4-liter V-8, Shelby completely tears down the engine and rebuilds it. The block is fitted with a new crankshaft, pistons, and rods; the heads are tweaked; cooling and exhaust systems are upgraded; and a new supercharger is fitted. A solid driveshaft and a nine-inch rear end are swapped in to beef up the driveline so it can handle the power bump, and the suspension and brakes are upgraded as well.
As you’d expect, the Shelby 1000 and 1000 S/C won’t be cheap and won’t be produced in large numbers. The standard 1000 treatment starts at $149,995, not including the donor GT500; the track-only 1000 S/C starts at $154,995 and also requires you to provide your own GT500. Shelby American will begin accepting reservations for examples of the limited-run cars in April.

200-250k for a mustang? LOL. Great car for sure, but not worth the price.

I could get a TT Gallardo for that.

Yeah, if I was gonna drop that kind of coin, it would have to be on something like a Lambo or some other "WOW factor" car. Not a Mustang. Come on dude, just cuz it gots all kinds a crazy horsepowers, don't make it worth that kind of ugly pricetag.......or what.........:omg:

I agree with most comments, but I wouldn't have two mustangs over my "Old Viper". Can't wait to see the Gen.V. Just hope it's at least 750 HP.
