I know this has been discussed before, but im asking a more specific question. I have 333 gears now. I tried every gear ratio possible in mild modified vipers. I did best wth 333's in those cars in the 1/4 mile. Some people say with 600 rwhp and over 600 torque the stock 307's are better because the torque pulls hard and u dont have to shift as much. Others say 355's make 4th stronger. I run MT drag radials. Did anybody with these hp #'s ever try it with higher and lower gears? If so what do u feel is better in the 1/4? Thanks. I need 10's before winter:)

Agree with BlackSanke99. With 600whp, you will need to shift to 4th for any of those gears, 3.07, 3.33, 3.55. Any more gearing and you will need a 5th gear shift. Ideally, you want to end at the top of your last selected gear, and thus this makes 3.55's the best candidate. The alternative, is to keep your 3.33s, and simply run a shorty tire on the back like a 305/30-18 (25.5" tall). The advantage is that you get a lighter wheel/tire and an equivalent final gear of 3.55. The drawback of course is that you have a narrower tire and a shorter sidewall.

Figure out your target miles per hour, you want to be almost at red line in fourth. I would stick with a 3.33. I think with a 3.54 you might run out of rpm in fourth, shifting into fifth is not an option. With the 3.33 your rpm might be just a little bit low going to the lights, which will give you a little room for driver improvement or maybe a little more horsepower, good luck and don't let it wheel hop.

I did 130mph with the 333's not close reaching the end of 4th tho. Time was 11.1 60 foot time 1.996. If I bring the 60 foot down to 1.6 I should be mid high 10's I think?

I must be way off. I am barely hitting 4th with my stock 08. Running 11.8. Hum I know I spin a lot off the line.

Scott, Like 345 said, you can get the effect of lower gear ratio by reducing the tire diameter. You could switch to a BFG drag radial which is about 1 inch shorter than the MT drag radial you are currently running. Some say the BFG's don't hook as well as the MT or M&H drag radials, that may be true, but I was able to pull a 1.58 60' on BFGs. Because the BFGs are shorter, you will be closer to the top of 4th gear when you cross the finish line. It is probably easier to try a tire swap than swap gears.

Blackout is running 3.33 gears. You have 3.07:1 gear ratio unless you have swapped from stock. The gear ratio is what makes the difference.

When my car was stock and with bolt-on's I liked the 3.55's, after the heads/cam and 612 rwhp the 3.55's were too much for the street went to 3.33's. Now after adding the supercharger and 909 rwhp I's thinking of going back to stock gears. Even with the tall MT drags on the back it's still too much gear for the street IMO.

I have hit 170 in 4th with my 09ACR With the Mopar computer!

I liked the 3.45s in my Gen 11 when I had 650RWHP. I tried the 3.55 and 3.73 as well. 3.73 are great in a stock gen1 and gen 11 and up to 500rwhp. After that, you need to take out gear as you add HP. The 3.45 are not readily available any more. For 600RWHP you have to choose between the 3.33 and 3.55. PS my 3.45 with the complete diff may be available.

I have run the 3.07. 3.33 and most recently 3.55. The car is currently close to 600 HP. During that time the car has probably made 100 1/4 mile runs. If you use a 26" tire you are going to hit the limiter at about 133 mph with the 355's. If you run the the new MT 345 X 18 DR you will probably go approximately 145-148. The 345 DR tire is approx 10% taller than the 26" tire so you lose the advantage of the 355's. In other words, the 355's with the 345 DR are actually 3.19's. This discussion gets less accurate with bias ply tires since their diameter grows near the end of the quarter. That growth is also dependent on the ratio of tire width to rim width.

Thanx for all the help:) theres so many more factors than i thought! I talked to a transmission place today who said i should change my trans gear ratio's? If i change to 355's with the tall tirethat sounds like it would work for the strip, but when i put my not as tall street tires on it may be too much gear? The 333's pull good from 60 to 130. Would the 355's pull harder? Maybe but when i have to shift sooner would the 333's pass me? Idid have one real good 60'time of 1.668. I missed 3rd tho. That was prob my 10 sec run right there. Im gonna try to go back sunday and see what happens?then i might try this tranzila over the winter and change the ratio's a bit. Ill let ya know how it goes. Thanks again. What is the fastest gen2 na 1/4 mile time anyway? Oh and what gears were they runing:)

I am not a drag racer but my car with 608whp does 160 in 4th with stock gear and 140 with 3.33 gear. Mopar controller.

wow....what tire and what RPM? I think that's a lot more speed than I can get in my Gen 2 with stock gears
