Advice - Stripped Sway Bar Mount Nut

While doing some work on the car, I removed the sway bar and reinstalled. One of the nuts stripped. Since the nuts are welded to the inside of the frame rail, it's a bit of a pain.

I couldn't find any access points to the nuts on the frame. It looks like they were welded in and then the frame was closed. Are there any options for accessing those nuts inside the frame rail, or am I stuck with doing a rethread?

Funny you should mention this. One of my rear exhaust mount screws has stripped in the frame - welded nut in the frame such as you describe.

I can actually access the back side of it by pulling the fender well liner back, as it's the one near the rear wheel well, but I'm going to do the professional repair and put a in weld nut.

Drill out the stripped nut in the chassis, then weld in one of these from McMaster Carr. Professional fix.

A little easier might be the rivet inserts that contain a machine thread. It would still have to be drilled out.

I would not use a rivet nut on a suspension mount. Body panel or trim part yes, suspension no.

Thanks. That looks like the right fix. I do have enough access. I'm going to pull the front fascia off to see if there is access to the back side of the nut from the front of the frame.

might as well be Dave. I need to pull my fascia off and have been scared to death to do so. I hear plenty of horror stories about it. So in this case I would take pulling my fascia off vs. pulling off Madonna's underoos...

I've had mine off enough times that I'm good at it. It the Gen 1 harder to do?
