"Drawing inspiration from Formula One tire design..."

Is it the same formula one design that couldn't safely run last week's course? Does it come with its own chicanes? heh

Introducing the new Michelin "Turn 13" tires! :D

Here's the response from Michelin. Not as quick into production as I would like but it's better than the answer I got last year saying they had no plans for a 335*35*17 ps2. My point to them in several letters was they have been the exclusive OEM supplier for Viper since the beginning and they should support the car by producing their best tires in sizes to fit past models as well as current models.

The F-1 fiasco will be a issue of it's own for a long time. But the relevent issue is that the PS2 tire is a great street tire and for Gen 1 & Gen 2 Viper owners it's making sure they have the proper sizes in the years to come.

Thank you for visiting our Web site and sending us your e-mail.

This message is in response to your e-mail:

Your web page shows the PS2 in 335-35-17 size but no one has them.
When will that size be available? Thanks, Marv S.,

The Pilot Sport PS2 in a 335/35ZR17 will not be available until some time next year. We do not have a definite availability date at this time.

That's B.S. Looks like they will send me to Kuhmo or another? Who else makes a good tire for the Gen 1 and Early Gen II owners?

I don't think they care, and Vipers are such a small percentage of their business that they won't even bother. Does anyone have a difinitive list of tires available for 17-19in Viper tires? I read about ps and khumos all the time, but have also seen pirellis mention from time to time. The rears on my gts are bridgestones.

-confused

Treadwear 220?????
is a higher # good or bad?

Depends on what you want to get out of it. A higher number means softer tire. The Pilot Sport C1s are 140 and my honda's OEM were like 100. At 220 you might be able to see your fingerprint if you push on it hard enough. Someone here did an ad-lib calculation of expected life on a 220 and it was like 8,000-10,000 miles for my "spirited" highway driving style.

You have it opposite. The lower number means the rubber is softer. Just go to the tire rack site and look up the competition tire treadwear ratings. Most if not all are well below 100.

These tires are OK, but they won't hold up to a track day like Pilot Sports. I don't have them on the Viper but I do run them on my other car. Much better tires for wet weather though.

Uh, no, a *lower* number means its softer tire.

Most of your track tires are less than 100 treadwear rating - 40 to 60 is pretty common. The higher the number, the longer the tire is supposed to last. For instance, the common Hoosier Autocross tires A3S04 and A3S05 have a treadwear of 40, the Kumho ECSTA 700's have a treadwear of 50, and you'd be lucky to see 5k miles on either of them, while people are easily getting 20k-30k miles out of the Michelin Pilot Sports with the 220 treadwear.
