Sorry Bat, nothing constructive to offer. I too am interested in this, though. It just seems strange that you don't see aftermarket seats much in vipers. I wonder if you need to re-install the seatbelt guide that's on the left shoulder of the driver's seat? Also, can someone explain where/how you would mount the 5/6 point harnesses in back of the seat? TIA

hey dave

did those seats just bolt in, or was there a lot of modification? if there is little modification you have me thinking...i might do that!

are those seats quite a bit more comfortable?...cause i here the srt's are soooo much more comfortable of a ride...it might help my gen 1 in longer drives...thanks

Ive taken my Gen 1 on several "long drives" (1.5-5 hours) and so far, only one person has complained about the comfort. Most of my passengers remark that its a far more comfortable riding car than they expected. That was also my 1st impression when I 1st bought it. But, I'm not sure any of them have ridden in a Gen 3 for a long distance (I havent), so they (and me) dont have a whole lot to compare the rides too

Because there are vendors that re-upholster the seats. And they do a great job. The drawback here is that you have to ship off your seats.

I don't quite understand this question. Do you mean how you mount the top part of the belts that are above your shoulder? If so, there are mounting holes already there on the bulkhead. You have to remove the bulkhead cover and cut holes into the cover for the straps to come through. The mounting points on the bulkhead have been filled with something. You have to remove that stuff out and your set to bolt in the top part of the 6/5 point.

A template for cutting should come with the belts. If not, you can nicely ask member Janni Cone if you can get a copy of the template she has.

Ryan,

The gen 3 seats go in with slight modifications and some fabrication. As you can see in the pics they are much more substantial then the gen 2 seats. They are slightly higher and place you slightly forward of the gen 2 seats. In my opinion they are much more comfortable then the original seats.

The side bolsters and suede like material hold you in the seat better during cornering.

If you need a seat lowering kit then this isn't the mod for you. If you want more comfort and better retention then this is a great mod......IMHO

This is what I had to do:

-Remove the seat belt buckle from the new seat (you'll be using the original seat belt system).

-Grind off the mounting tabs to the new seats.

-Fabricate brackets out of 3/8" X 2" steel stock.

-Install the brackets onto the new seats.

-Bolt the seats into the car. The OEM bolts were too short so I replaced them with longer bolts.

Thanks for the info, Ulysses. No doubt that SnakeHydes etc. do a fantastic job. I just figured for the track I'd see more Sparco, Recaro type aftermarket seats in cars. Glad to hear that the holes already exist for the shoulder portion of the harnesses...

Ahh! I get it now. There are manufacturers that carry racing seats that fit Vipers. For example.
PartsRack has this one:

THe reason you don't see much of them in Vipers is that you probably see much much more street Vipers. The few that are dedicated track cars will have something like this in them.

Have installed aftermarket Sparco "like" seats which I purchased on ebay 2 years ago for $200 for the pair. I had custom mounts made for the seats and bolted them in. They freshen the interior of my car and look much nicer than the original gen1 seats. Not to mention they are not leather which is nice in the summer with the top off. Its been 2 years and no rips, tears, squeeks or issues. And yes, I weight 265lbs and the seats have held up beautifully.

Total mod cost $250 including custom brackets and seats. If you'd like photos drop me a line and I'll send some. The seats combined with the dyed red and black interior look great!

I track my '01 GTS and replaced the stock seats with MOMO RS2's and Sabelt harnesses. I made brackets much like VPRVENM97 which lowered my seat over 2" which is a good thing since i'm 6'5".

Hey Dave, you stole my picture! I'd recognize the crappy quality any day lol. I'm just kidding of course, thanks again for the ride, you can steal my pictures anytime.

And the MOMO's you see above are comfortable and with the belts hold you very well.

Thing is, I'll need to change my interior color. Anyone want to swap black for cognac? ;)

I put a set of Sparco Torino2's in mine. They are quite comfy now that that they are in, but it took a bit of work and surgery to get there.
The recline adjuster knobs have to be removed, and the outboard adjuster had to be shaved off (which required a bit of spot welding afterwards to keep the shaft retained).
The outboard shoulder "wing" also needs some trimming to clearance the door panel. You'll also need to fab up a set of brackets to hold in the seats.
