Last week I went to visit the auto tech program I graduated from to show off my Viper and they asked if I wanted to put it on the new dyno for free
I said Sure! :2tu:

I took 3 runs making small adjustments to fuel and timing on the VEC1 each time
first run was 433.5HP @5446rpm and 453.0TQ @4829rpm
second run (advanced timing and leaned fuel) was 437.9HP @5482rpm and 471.2TQ @4395rpm
third run (advanced timing and leaned fuel some more) was 437.8HP @5492rpm and 471.1TQ @4349rpm

This was on a brand new mustang dyno
The first run was very jagged and the TQ#s were not fully measured
The second run was the smoothest and highest
The third was just to make sure there was no more power to be had

I dialed it back to the second run's tuning and was very happy to get the car dialed in better than before
It feels much smoother than before

I should be able to get some good pics and vids of the runs but I have to wait for the auto tech instructor to get them downloaded to his computer

I didn't expect it to be free but I knew they would give me a great deal
I told them that I am planning on putting a 200shot on this winter and they said it would be great if I would bring it back in the spring

I have a 97 Viper GTS with a k&n drop-in filter, headers, catless exhaust, and a fuel/timing controller (VEC1)
I'm putting together a NOS wet system from stuff I've had over the years
Should be in by the end of winter, possibly before the end of the year

just thought I'd share;)

Those are nice #'s, especially for a Mustang dyno, which typically reads 6-10% lower than a Dynojet.

What kind of headers and exhaust (I ask because I am in the market)?

As Plum said, get the Vec2 and have Roe Racing upgrade it to Vec3 so you can do logging. Join the VCA and gain access to a wealth of logging/WBO/Tuning how-to's. :2tu:

I'm thinking of getting a VEC2 for the built in window switch to use in the nitrous setup
but is there going to be any real power gains over the VEC1?

yes and a lot of it in normal N/A driving. i gained about 25rwhp from it alone. and the WOT switch and rpm switch built in makes the nitrous setup a lot cleaner. i loved it that way personally.

the fine tuning is really a lot better with the vec 2 or 3. ask sean about it. he can probably send you a program based on mine from 4 years ago when i was tuned by him on his dyno for my nitrous setup. or at least get ya started and fine tune it on the dyno though. i would never run the nitrous on the street before tuning it on the dyno first.

Borla headers and exhaust

Are those the discontinued Borla 1 5/8" stepped headers with 2-piece merge collector? If so, those headers rock. I had them prior to my Belangers and they produced great torque gains in the mid-range. With Borla headers, B&B hi-flow cats and 3" catback, K&N filters (No vec or tune) my '01 RT/10 dyno'd at 448RWHP and 479RWTQ on a Mustang Dyno. The only problem I had with those headers is that they kept coming loose and leaked. I later found out this was due to the exhaust hangers by the turnouts, don't use them unless you have flex joints there.

Tony,
from what I understand the set I have are not the good ones
My mods are very similar to yours, I just need to upgrade to the VEC2/3, install my WB, and I think I'll go with the 180 t-stat

if doing the thermostat, you have to take off the intake, might as well powdercoat it and the valve covers while you're at it....but thats just me...:)

A couple of insights:

1. Because of complaints, the Mustang dyno now has a software patch that can simulate the Dynojet.

2. Get your WB installed prior to the the nos and get a feel for it. This is just an opinion, but, the VEC2 as a tuning tool that cannot be done without, but as a logging tool there are many far better. If you look at the Innovate web site you will get a good education on what logging capabilities they have. I had the VEC1 and basically threw it away. I now have the VEC2 and the Innovate WB/logging system. I'm also running nitrous.

I am upgrading to the Innovate DL32, if anyone is interested, my current system is avaiable at 50% of Innovate's published price.

I have an Innovate LC-1 and XD-1 WB
I will be installing it before running the n2o, I just can't find good place to mount the gauge

I would love to upgrade to a VEC2, but unless I can find a used one at a good price, I'll need to put it off for awhile

Put it in place of the oem voltage gauge, it fits perfectly

I have seriously considered it but dread pulling the dash out

It is not that bad. After the lower trim is removed, it is basically snaps. Do a search, someone posted pictures about two years ago. It is probably still in the media gallery. It does fit perfectly and it is nice to be able to log (anytime) by just pushing a buttion.

Is it the LM-1 you are going to sell?

Sorry about the delay, you are correct, the LM1 and the aux box, this would allow you to log multiple inputs from the PCM. At a minimum you would want rpm, tps and the a/f. I also have an Autometer fuel -pressure gauge that could also be logged.
