Just got my Viper out of the shop. Had a broken carrier no posi traction. I asked my Viper tech why it broke and he pointed to my foot. I told him that shouldn't be an issue but, he said that the differential is not what it should be in a car like the Viper. He said I should go with a different setup. Tru Track is one. The Quafie is another. Since Dodge fixed it under warranty I guess I will run it till it breaks again.

The stock diff will take abuse but if you have experienced wheel hop often then no it will not last. The other thing is if you drag race or use drag radials this will shorten the life of the stocker. In this instances you would be better off with a Quaife for sure.

Well as you know any Viper owner has had wheel hop. So I guess it's just a matter of time before it goes again. I am running PS2 tires also. It did eliminate some of the hop but by design it seems impossible to elminate. It really seems like this car stock may not be built to drive hard. I am sure one thing will lead to another upgrade the shafts would probably be next.

Yes wheel hop can be a way of life but tire pressures can help a little and then there is always the Moton shock conversion that will eliminate 75% of the problem. I see the real issue as being the shock spring combination. They do not control small quick movements of the suspension well enough to handle the wheels when they spin.

The best part about the Motons are that they eliminate any stiction in the shock and they have much better control at small movements (not to mention they have bearings for mounts rather than rubber!).

May be a costly solution but it has 3 payoffs in the end, wheel hop lessened (better acceleration!), ride improved 100% (at least), and better overall cornering prowess (control), oh yea 4 is the fact that they will lower that bad boy into the weeds if you like! :headbang::headbang::headbang:

Thanks for the info on the shocks. I was thinking of a new Quafie first. I can see where you can dump some serious bucks into this issue. Not sure just what to do I love to drag race this but most officals won't let me run because of the soft top.

I was wondering about that Quaife. I wonder how it feels on the street compared to the stock diff. I have always noticed going around most corners if you step on the gas just a little it wants to get loose. I think this is due to slippage designed into the stock diff. Who has the answers???

Well I have MY answers,

The Quaife diff will resist "locking the rear wheels together" like the stock diff does when confronted with this situation. This is what will keep the back end where it should be. As with most things you can still override this with enough throttle but under controlled use you will feel VERY safe compared to a stock diff in and Gen Viper.

The Quaife as great as it is will still be 2nd on my list of recommended upgrades for this issue behind the Motons just because the Motons will help NOT ONLY this but ride, looks, adjust-ability and better "tracking going down the road" IE safer, all while improving road course/autocross performance at the same time.

Did you really feel that much difference with Motons? I am surprised by that info but, have never tried them. I really can't lower the car anymore than it is at stock I had an air dam on it and it's been broken three times hitting things driveways etc. I have another question since I have only been in my viper I wonder how much noise the tranny makes it seem excessively noisy to me.

People have had their reservations about the Motons in the past but I have sold 78 sets in the last 2 years based on what I have just told you and have never had anything but customers calling to say that it is even better than I described! You do not have to lower the car to get the benefits. We can set it up with all the other "perks" we do when corner weighting and aligning a Moton car and you will just as happy.

I choose NOT to sell things that I am not 100% convinced are worth the time or money. Rather than offering you everything and then hoping that you are happy I choose to sell you MY stuff and KNOW you will be happy! :2tu:

For your transmission noise issue they are all subjective. I would say if you are feeling anything more than what you would consider "gear noises" when applying a small amount of pressure on the stick I would have it looked at. How old is the fluid? miles? It could also be noisy because of a loose shifter bolt etc...

Thanks,
