Can a Gen 2 rear end be swapped into a Gen 1?

The title says it all. I have a spare rear end and a local in VA wants it and wanted to check if a Gen 2 rear end will actually go right into a Gen 1. I believe so but I would like some more knowledgeable people to verify or someone who has done it to chime in.
