I'm headed to LMS this weekend to do the SRT Track Experience, and I'm wondering how it all works. Do I drive my Viper, or just their cars?

Also, if I do drive my car should I be worried about scratching it up when I'm taking out cones (if that should happen), and should I tape the car up with painter's tape to protect it?

Sorry to sound anal, but I'm anal... And the paint on this car (2008 VVO) seems to scratch very easily.

You drive SRT's car so you have nothing to worry about. Even if you participate in autocross later on (yes the Viper is a great autox car), cone marks will buff out easily if you hit them when they are not rock hard (winter months).

No, you can not drive your personal Viper on the track at SRT event (way too much liability to even consider this) AND you can only drive the SRT Vipers in 1st gear, with the instructor in the car, and hand on ebrake at all times..

Dont get me wrong, its a great event.. But the only hard driving with the Viper, will be at the end during the hot laps. And you will be a passenger, not a driver.

I did (4) SRT T.E.'s and at none of them was I ever relegated to 1st gear in the Viper.
Given, it's an autocross course, so you probably won't be able to get all the way through 2nd. But I was never told "Don't shift."

Maybe it's different with the Petty crew.
I only did them with the Skip Barber crew.

BTW- the reason their hand is on the e-brake is because that's where the kill switch is located.
They're not gonna yank it on ya unless you're about to get into serious trouble.

Lots of things have changed. SEARCH THIS TOPIC!! Your car stays in parking lot.

You will NOT be driving any Vipers, yours or theirs. Any Viper time is right-seat only, 25% chance by drawing-lottery. All the REST of the cars you get to drive....some quite fast!

Fun event, have done two......

The SRT Track experience "ain't" what it used to be. Over time I have found them to be more and more restrictive and less and less fun.
Don't get me wrong, they're better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, but kind of watered down.

Last year we drove their vipers on a small slow course - still fun. The passenger seat ride is great! If you let them know you bought a new Viper and you want to see what they can make it do - quietly on the side of course - you may improve your odds. :drive:

Still a great and fun event and those who have gone are very thankful for the sponsors! ;)
