Hey guys,

So I just picked up my new to me 03 from Buhler Dodge about a month ago. While I was there I realized the Oil Pressure Gauge, and Oil Temp gauge were not functioning properly.

I am not too worried about it as the car is under warranty.

Symptoms:

Oil Pressure gauge is basically spiked at 80. Even after getting the car up to temp it will only fall slightly even at low RPM's. It looks like the sender could be bad.

Oil Temp gauge is the opposite sits at the bottom and never really comes up to temp what so ever. I know it's a ton of oil but after 30 minutes of driving I would expect the gauge to move some.

My warranty will cover the work, so I guess my question is, is this a common problem?

Thanks,

Andy Wheeler:)

Never heard of it....:dunno:

If it's covered by warranty, just go get it fixed and get the answer instead of guesses and speculation.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

For general info, drove our 03 yesterday which was a 55 degree day here...engine has Mobil 1 10W-30...oil pressure stayed around 80 til I FINALLY got to about 185 degrees on oil temp at which time the pressure would drop 50 at idle, noting that water temp peaked just over 200 while stopped. Oil never reached much over 180-185.

Well if thats the case maybe it's fine, I am coning from Vettes, that apparently have very different pressures and temps.

Thanks for the heads up guys.

Also I ask questions because I like to learn about the car and what I am seeing. I hate just dropping the car off somewhere and having someone fix it, I would much rather learn what happened incase it happens again when there is no warranty left.

I also have a 03 and the psi is always pegged at 80 until the car warms up a bit. Never really paid attentiion to the oil temp but the psi gauge sounds pretty normal for the 03's

This is also why in 2004 the oil pressure gage was changed to a 0-100psi... people were getting scared of seeing the needle at the high end of the scale.

But it is very typical and not an issue...

The oil temp guague was also re-scaled in 2004 to start at 140F instead of 180F to demonstrate better that the guage is working.

Enjoy the car... it is working normally.

Excellent information! It's funny you mentioned that because I did notice that in the two 06's I was looking at when at Buhler. All I noticed was that the 06's looked to be functioning properly, but I failed to notice the re scaling of the gauges.

Thanks Buddy!
