Feedback on changing 2006 wheels from 18/19\" to 19/20\"?

The first modification I am thinking of making to my Viper is to replace the upgraded 18/19" 2006 sidewinder wheels with Purner 19/20" wheels. I will be going for the black centers with polished or chrome lips.

Has anyone else done this, and if so, can you provide feedback?

My concern is that I did +2" in the past on a different car, only to regret the harshness they did to the ride and steering wheel feedback.

So I am thinking +1" may be less aggressive.

I also would need to know what my tire size options would be then. I am open to increasing the overall diameter of the wheel/tire, especially since my second upgrade will be to replace the 3.07 rear with a 3.55 or so.

Thanks!

BTW: I am selling the 18/19\" 2006 sidewinders with tires

By the way, since I am changing wheels and tires, I am interested in selling my 2006 style sidewinder 18/19" wheels with the factory tires. They have 120 miles (so far). Any idea what the going price is?

Hey Bob, nice meeeting you other night at VCA meeting. Anyways, heres a pic of my buddies. Lowered with Moton's and 19"/20" HRE's. It rides great. No real difference in ride with tires in my opinion. Plus the look is amazing. Theres lots of tire threads here. If you go with Pirelli's, the rear tire will have a slightly smaller diameter then stock, better matching to front tire in my opinion and looks better. If you go with Michelins, the rear tire will have slightly more sidewall. Heres the Pirelli's

Switching out the stock 18/19 inch run flats to 19/20 inch non runflats makes a difference in ride quality for the better....even though there is less side wall. The run flats are super stiff.

Then you get into suspention upgrades that let you adjust ride height and quailty.

Rear tire options are the Michelin PS2 in a 335/30/20 or the Pirelli P-Zero Rosso in a 345/25/20.

The PS2 is almost .5 inch taller than stock the P-Zero is almost .5 inch shorter.

Fronts sizes you have a few more options.

I went the P-Zero route with 275/30/19 and 345/25/20 sizes. The shorter Pirelli makes the already huge wheel gap even bigger so you'll want to look into lowering it. I went with Motons. They have the best track record..also the highest price.

Also, the Pirellis are on backorder for who knows how long. I spoke with JonB and he recommended that if you go with the Pirellis buy 4 rears while you can. He knows people that have had to park there car for months waiting on backordered 20 inch tires. FWIW.

I just got a set last week from wheels botique in FL. Saved my *** or my car would have been on blocks longer than it has. I think they may have some more sets. I got the mystical 345/25/20's that have been on back order. I did say a prayer of thanks to the big guy upstairs because I called everyone. Good luck.

Hi MikeR,
Wow! Next club meeting I would love to get a ride in your viper with the Motons. After all my online research, the setup you have is exactly what I was thinking of doing, although with the Purner wheels. Bill Pemberton advised me to go with the Motons after I talked to him about the difference between the Viper and the Ford GT I experienced.

Remember, the sincerest form of flattery ...

I like the look of the HRE over the Purner, but I am thinking that the Purners will sustain less bent rims which is something I have learned to worry about with rims that have lips. The Purners have 2.5x thickness on the lip over typical 3 piece wheels according to John Purner; but he did not specifically state over the HRE wheels.

The Purners also come as 20x13 rear, and 19x11 front. I am also leaning towards the PS2 Michelin 335/30/20 rear and 295/30/19 front (for the 11" width).

I wonder how to adjust the speedometer. I will search the forums.

Re: Feedback on changing 2006 wheels from 18/19

I couldnt be happier with my plus 1 swap to HREs and Pirellis. Ride is much more compliant since weight reduction is probably between 5 lbs per wheel in the front and 10lbs plus at each corner in the rear. A difference you can definitely feel.

See my gallery for pics.
