Wish I could tell you it was a major drama and I got nabbed for doing a huge sideways slide right in front of a State Trooper but I have no such story to pass on.

Comin' North on Federal Hwy in Pompano (3 lanes wide) at 12:30 am doin 62 in 45 and missed the Florida Highway Patrol unit on the median. He had his lights off and was perched on the other side of a short bridge crossing a canal.

Got lit up immediately and knew I was not going to get out of this one. Have had the car 1 1/2 years, driven it every day, and no ticket until now. Have been stopped numerous times by Broward Sheriffs Office, Boca City cops, Lighthouse Point but these FHP guys are just brutal. No gettin' out of it. And I thought those guys just ran 95 and Turnpike area. Kinda bummed. .........only 'cause when I get 'em .....I usually get em in threes.

You terrorist! You murderer! You thief!

That cop was just doing his duty to save humanity - believe it or not, a cop once emailed that comment to me.

Do you have a detector? If not, may I recommend the Valentine 1. You should also look into a laser shifter. You can see the specs for a good front/rear one on ******'s web site http://www.escortradar.com

In any event, get a lawyer who specializes in traffic tickets. Even if he/she does not get it dismissed they may be able to get it reduced. Driving school may then eliminate the remaining points putting you back in the clear.

Good luck.

Proper application of the right-most pedal in those situations can avert citations

Ya. There's a guy out here with one of those new V8 Lotus' who likes to drive extremely fast.

When I asked him if he was worried about getting a ticket going 140 he just said, "Do you know how long it takes a police cruiser to get to 140?"

Last time I made that comment to a police office, he reminded me that the Viper is faster than Ford and Chevy, but not faster than Motorola.

FHP *****, I got a ticket in my girlfriend's New Beetle, of all cars...a Beetle, for doing 79 in a 70 just south of Dade City southbound on I75. It was new years weekend though and I've heard they have quotas to meet--at least that's what I like to think. FHP are a bunch of vultures; nothing more, nothing less.

I'd never run in my Viper. Too much visibility with that car.
Some friends of mine who drive sportsbikes, hmmm how shall I say this...., never wait for the cops to show up.
Usually when they are at high speed the cop comes from the other direction or sits along the road.

This is the drill : build up the speed to a level where you still feel comfortable. Usually that's around 150 mph (my friends only race their bikes when traffic and other conditions allow. Net, they do not want to take the risk to harm anybody else). Do not panic. You're faster anyway. Piggy will quickly loose visible contact with you. Never make the mistake of taking the first road to the right. That's what most novices do and that's part of piggy drill. Try to keep up your speed on the same road for 1 to 2 miles. Then take a left. Change roads again after a couple of miles. Go to a friends house or sit it out in the forest (I know this will be difficult in Arizona or Nevada).
Have fun ! You just saved yourself a lot of time and money and prevented somebody from going on a powertrip.

It is true FHP is Brutal and they make a sh*tty salary. So it pleasures them to pick on us. If they just owned a Viper they would not TARGET us. BTW if there were three lanes of traffic how can he be sure that it was you that he nailed. (Because you had the car that stands out the most) Sounds to me as if you could fight that one in court.

It's not just Florida. It's the whole country. If a cop "lets you off" it's most likely because he didn't have a good read on you, not because he's a great guy.

It's official, this country operates in a police state. Commies, Nazis, Socialist.
