I went to the dragstrip for the first time ever last night to see what the snake would do. The outside temp was in the upper 90's and me being a novice, I didn't expect too much. I was surprised at how many cars showed up. There were probably 50 cars and 50 motorcycles, everything from mini dragsters to full blown drag bikes. There had to be at least 300 people in the stands. Needless to say I was a little nervous making my first run. The times are as follows
r/t=.602
60= 2.344
1/8= 8.832 @ 86.40
1/4= 13.278 @ 110.79
I know that really ***** so here come the excuses. The track prep was nonexistent. I launched aroun 3k rpm and spun like crazy. I was pedaling the whole time trying to hook up. Also the nerves played a part. I didn't want to stall in front of the crowd. The next run was a little better.
r/t= .286
60= 2.208
1/8= 8.510 @ 89.26
1/4= 12.825 @ 113.67
On this run, I raced a friends 98 gts with a 200 shot of nitrous and slicks. He shut it down and coasted through the traps at 11.38, so as not to embarrass me. His best time of the night was a 10.6. My last run was a little better than the second.
r/t= .615
60= 2.049
1/8= 8.305 @ 88.79
1/4= 12.652 @ 111.12
On the last pass a guy in an infiniti g35 was dying to race. He stayed with me through the whole staging process. He got the jump on me with the auto trans. His r/t was .077 but by the 60' I was ahead by .3 and smoked him by over 2 seconds. I thought he might have had someting special in the car by the way he made sure we raced.
I will go out a few more time over the next couple of months and work on my launches and try to get the 60' time down under 2.0. The question I have, is why do I have a better et on my last pass with slower mph over the second pass. I am guessing it is the 60' that plays a big part in this. Any experienced drag racers feel free to give some tips or comments.
