Hey guys,
How reliable is your viper? What yr and how many miles do you have? Any modifications? What parts have you had to get replaced/fixed? Have you had any mechanicall issues since you bought the Viper?

Thanks
Dave

I have 41K on my 2000 RT/10 and use it often on the track. I have Archer headers, 3" exhausts & cats, Koni shocks and Eibach springs, new larger radiator, race wires, Stoptech brakes and modified airbox. I have had no problems with the vehicle. It's American engineering at it's very best.

Hey Bernard..
We are practically neighbors.....I havent seen your car around....
We should get some "Inland" snakes together some time...
Ever go to the Buffalo Inn on Foothill in Upland?
Well back to the subject at hand....
Mystic, I have put about
20k miles on my snake, it has about 35k on it now, and have only changed the oil a few times and replaced a p/s hose which cost me about $40.00 and took me a half hour to replace.....(knock on wood)
Cheers,

To be honest with you, my viper has been more reliable than some of my other cars I had in the past. I like the fact that the viper has soo much room to work in and for the most part..it's easy to do. People look at me when I have my air tools out and under the hood, but it was a lot easier to work on than my 300zx twin turbo.

25,000 miles (see mods below) and all my car does is start every time and run like a bat out of hell. Amazing reliability! Never a problem.

It seems the more I spend for a car the more I beat the living snot out of it. I drive this car hard everywhere I go. It was designed to do just that, Drive Hard!
40,012 miles on it (just rolled over 40K last night). I've done everything, mods wise, you can without touching the engine (money restrictions).
I have had a small leak with A/C.
Um, er. I have had numerous bug gut removal operations
Um, er, oh...That's it. Keep it tuned and serviced regularly and it will treat you FINE!! Just remember don't let a small problem get away. It turns expensive in a hurry!!

I have a 94 RT/10 w/ 23000 KM (aprox 13000 miles). I've had to replace the master and slave cylinder for my clutch this spring. Ever drive a Viper with out a clutch!
It's been done.
Oh yea, TIRES, I've replaced my back tires.
Cheers,
TJ

Not only that. It's cheap to maintain. It cost me just $300 CDN for the first service which was just checking some stuff out and replacing the brake and oil fluids.

On the other hand you could buy a Ferrari and spend $5000 each year on service.

Mine is a 1993.

Against all recommendations and advises I insisted of buying it. Everybody warned me about pre -94 cars regarding motor etc issues, expecially low mileage cars. And on top of all other facts it was at a HUYNDAI dealer. I told the owner that I would fly to see it if he could justify how in the he** a Huyndai dealer has a Viper.... He gave a very good explination, that calmed me down and I flew to see it. I was able to buy DODGE warranty for 4 years and 48000 miles, which reduced my fear level with pre -94 cars. I wanted to have a LOW mileage car.
Mine had 7000 miles.

I have had it now 1,5 years, it has now 21000 miles. I did replace the original tires with Michelin Pilots, since the originals were full of crack, but not out of thread.

Broken parts: Some plastic fixtures inside car
backup light switch
A/C condencer

Maintenance: Max 3000 miles/ Mobil 1
New oil for trans and rear axle every spring
All brakefluid replaced every spring
Plugs and wires every spring
3 gallons of Zaino
Tons of gas

And I drive it thru winter, if weather permits (never in snow or wet weather though...)
I took it multiple times to Poconos in January/February at 30-33 F temperatures, quite comfortable with the Autoform top on!!!! It has idled at Dallas rush hour trafic at +100 F temperatures too!

WHAT A GREAT CAR VIPER IS!!!

'97 Viper GTS Basically Stock. 22,000 miles.

3000 miles needed intake manifold Gasket replaced.

15,000 mile dumped its coolant into the oilpan. Apparent cause
was a bad timing chain cover gasket.

18,000 miles the sender unit to the oil pressure warning light
went bad and started leaking oil. Replaced.

21,000 the sender unit to the oil pressure guage did the same.
Replaced

Upgraded cooling fan, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires,
That just as maintainence. Also the requisite oil and filter
changes every 2500 miles.

Replaced the Idle Air Control Motor, TPS, re-replaced the
intake manifold gaskets, replaced the fuel filter,
replaced the air filters,
and upgraded the PCV tubing in an attempt to correct "Idle Hang".

Car still intermitantly has "Idle Hang" and occasionally stumbles
at part throttle (I believe they are related problems).

The mechanism that holds the driver side door open broke
at 13,000 miles but I've left that alone and don't miss it.

Leaks in the rain above the passenger side windsheild
and along the passenger side rear hatch. Don't drive it
in the rain much anymore.

Otherwise it's fairly problem free.

Still, it's got its original tires which appear to be barely worn.
Go figure.

These cars are freakin' awsome! Mine's 6 years old with 21k miles and just did an 1100 mile trip to the mountains of West Texas with some other VCA non-conformists. 30-40 mph (marked) rollercoaster roads that turned into 130 mph farm-market roads, which in turn became 175 mph US highways. Chuck "Ironman" Babel drove 1600 mi ONE WAY to join in the insanity and had no problems. We cruised I-10 at 90-100 mph for hundreds of miles and got over 20mpg with 50W oil!

My car has had A/C service, tranny (shifter fork) pinion and engine oil seal issues - but that's about it.
