Increasing Compression: How?

As I'm saving up for a possible build one of the options I was considering is staying NA and getting some headwork, cam, pistons, etc. Being a noob at internal engine work...what does increasing the compression actually entail on our Vipers? I assume this is done through pistons and headwork? :dunno:

P.S. I've read enough posts regarding the warnings about a proper and costly NA build so I'm good, if not tired, reading that advice. Just looking for an answer to the above question. :)

Thanks,
- Tony

With pistons, milling the heads, or just going thinner with the head gasket. How much compression are you thinking of running?

Actually you're doing what I'd like to do. I was going to have Greg Good do my heads and cam. I see that you're using JE Pistons 11.5:1 compression. Do you have the specs on your pistons? Bore, compression height, wrist pin?

Alot easyier and cheaper to mill the heads than playing with a bottom end .Dont get m wrong lightweight componets ,blueprinting ect on the bottom end will free up power BUT its very costly .

Tony whatever package you use DONT get sucked into dyno sheet numbers: these heads ,this cam ect.You dont want dyno numbers what you want is a trap speed guarantee on pump gas and stock tires. No matter the CLAIMED POWER NUMBERS they try to sell you on if the car is not trapping 131 mph plus something is wrong.

Oh yea Tony...

Would not be a bad idea to just do a Greg Good Heads + Nice hydraulic cam setup, Banton is making close to 600rwhp with just "bolt ons". With a slight head shave or thinner head gasket, bumping the compression over 10.0 isn't that hard, and you would not have to tear the bottom end apart.

Just a thought...and to save a good bit of money.

Yeah, Greg gave me a good schooling on all this last year. He's definitely getting my heads when I'm ready.

;) Now get yours done already, so we can see what a serious N/A, roller cam'd Viper can do!

I'm picking up the hood and bumper from the paint shop this weekend to put back on the car since the motor is in. I'm not going to know what to do with myself once it fires up for the first time.

ViperTony,
As in other post before, the easy way to get your comp. ratio up is to mill the heads. The correct way to do it would include new flat-top pistons that are .000 -.007 out of the bore. Use a .040 thick gasket and chamber volume of your choice. It works very well! As an example, my pistons are .007 out of the bore, .040 gasket, JM heads with 78cc chambers puts it roughly at 10.2:1
