A battery tender isn't the same thing as a regular charger.... it can be left plugged in all the time. A modern "tender" sends a trickle of current through the battery and maintains the battery voltage at hair above the 2.22+/-volts/cell (around 13.5 volts). It helps to keep the battery "fresh" longer. Batteries live longer in the cold if properly maintained (not freezing). Put in the basement, turn on the tender and walk away.

I am sold on using a battery tender. The last battery was in service for 7 years,. I replaced it last year for piece of mind. I am conviced it was the tender that provided the longevity. I share using the tender on a couple of toys. Just simply plug it in every 2-3 weeks until the battery is charged. I don't find a need to leave it plugged in all the time. Hope this helps!:2tu:

It sounds as if you're removing the battery. If that's the case, just keep it inside your house and plugged into the tender.

Hi Jon...we have a Schumacher 1.5amp Slow Charge Batter Charger/Maintainer...bought at Advanced Auto for $48. Leave on all the time, but as Phil also said, when there IS a good driving day (NO SALT!!!) we DO DRIVE the car to temperature, then a bit longer. This is a GREAT battery tender, you just leave it on all the time. It lights up when charged. Now we gotta get another one, do you put your two snakes on a tender, Jon? ~juli
**I just noted, 2snakes4us has same one!**
