RACERS AND SPONSORS GEAR UP FOR VRL EASTERN REGION’S
FIRST EVENT OF THE YEAR AT MID-OHIO
BARRINGTON, Ill.—On April 27, Viper racing enthusiasts will converge on Lexington, Ohio’s premier raceway, the Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course, for the 2003 “Mid-Ohio Viper Days Race.” The Viper Racing League (VRL) expects one of the biggest events yet at Mid-Ohio as Viper racing reaches an all-time high with increased interest in the latest purpose-built, Viper race car dubbed the “Comp-Coupe.”
Recently introduced by Dodge Performance Vehicle Operations, the Comp-Couple will compete against previously-owned modified Vipers in wheel-to-wheel racing. The Mid-Ohio is a three-day event, with “testing and tuning” on Friday, April 25. Saturday is a warm up race with points and monies awarded to the top six positions in GT1 and Comp-Coupe classes.
Sunday’s feature race allows racers the opportunity to win double points and additional monies for top-performance in the each class. The Sunday winnings are posted at $16,500.00 and are in the form of “Viper Racing League Bucks” offered by the VRL, McCann Plastics, Hoosier, Bobby Archer Motorsports, Corsa Exhaust Systems and Borla Exhaust Systems. “We’re seeing larger turnouts of racers and increased participation from sponsors who are offering better awards in the form of “bucks” that can be traded for products or services offered by these partners,” says Skip Thomas, president, Viper Days Inc.
