My Darn Brakes Squeak....

This is my first post however i have been following the forum for a while. I picked up a brand new 2002 GTS at a dealer, it now has approx. 600 miles and the brakes squeak at light breaking and when coming to a stop. IT IS HORRIBLE and embarassing actually. I took it into the dealership and they said that it was normal and that "these things squeak as they come off of the truck..."
What can I do?? Change the pads? Is it the pads, rotors? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

shahin

Go with EBC greens, a little less braking power, but squeek free, and dust free as well.

It's the pads. SnakeOyl sells a set of low dust, low noise Brembo Sport brake pads, just like the EBC Greens but no fugly green color...

The squeaking will diminish the more you use them. Do a few "bake-ins/aggressive braking". A buck to 0, fast. :D Do this once every time you take her out. Besides taking care of the squeak, it's fun to do! :headbang:

Buy VHT1500 black spray. Tape off the pads and spray the rears. The ugly green will go away.

I actually baked mine in the oven a little trying to follow the directions on the can but didn't do it nearly as long. Wait until wife isn't home if you do this.

I really appreciate this post you guys . This site is so great , I too have had my Viper for only a few months , it only had 2k miles when I first bought it , when I looked at the rotors when I first got the car to see if it had been driven hard. It looked like the brakes had never even been used. My brakes squeek too , but I just havn't got around to asking yet ( whether I thought it was just to embarrasing of a question or not I'm not telling :) . But reading the posts puts my mind at ease. You guys are so great I really enjoy coming on this site.
And I can't get enough of my car , I have put on about 1000 miles on my car in a month of owning it . Its so much more fun to drive then my vette. If my fiance eventually gets bored of driving it I dont even care if I keep it or not . I love my Viper so much I just dont ever drive my vette.

I took my car back to Dodge because the brakes were squeaking. They resurfaced the rotors, etc... Then I received a Viper mag that said all Viper breaks squeak, and now I just deal with it. I originally thought that maybe there were something wrong (like the dealership drove the car a bunch and then turned back the odometer), but I have come to understand that it is normal. Even Dodge didn't know that they were supposed to squeak.

Just replace them with EBC Greens.
Paint them with VHT1500
Don't use them on the track.
