How are you enjoying this newly offered system?

My understanding is that it is not a particularly "state of the art" system, i.e., you cannot utilize both the NAV system and play a CD at the same time since the NAV system requires you to use the NAV CD in the single CD system.

I'm curious as to how those that chose this option feel about it. Is it worthwhile?

My preference is to go with this upgrade mainly because I want Sirius Radio, NAV assistance and it is a "stock" system that looks stock in the dash. But $1,700 will buy one heck of an aftermarket system.

Anyone?

This sounds like an RB1. The RB1 fits most of the late model Chrysler products. I put an RB1 in my truck and it is awesome. You can buy an RB1 anytime and it just plugs in to the factory harness, supports the steering wheel controls, iPod, syrius, all that.. Can be had for quite abit less. If you don't mind used, you can get them on ebay for $600-$700.

I'm going to put one in my Viper pretty soon as well.

I'll let you know how the NAV is in mine after it gets here on Thursday:D. I wonder if it is similar to the MY GIG system that is in my Wrangler. It has NAV,SIRIUS,DVD,IPOD hook-ups and stores music on the hard drive. And CD does work while NAV is working it just voices over the toned down music. But oddly, the screen sometimes shows me driving in a lake or in the ocean (when in FL). They tell me it has to do with the number of satellites you are hooking up to:dunno:, In any case, check back on Thursday or Friday and I'll let you know if I'm driving in the lake or not:D

I have an RB1 now in my 06. The RB1 Nav radio is a single disc CD while the standard radio can load 6 discs. That plus the $500 availability of the portable GPS systems that work REALLY well convinced me to just stay with the standard radio and save $1700.

Radio features: The radio portion features 30 station presets, 10 each for AM, FM and the Sirius Satellite Radio system (requires Satellite Radio Service activation). The radio also features a CD changer control for the factory optional 10-disc changer. When not needing the use of the NAV unit, the DVD disc can be removed and an audio CD can be played in the same slot. Special Program Type (PTY) feature allows you to search for FM and Sirius Satellite Radio stations by type of music category, from those stations broadcasting a PTY compatible signal. The CD player is compatible with both CD-R and CD-RW discs. The radio or a CD from the changer can be listened to while in the NAV mode.

Is this available in our Vipers? If so, wouldn't this address the single disc issue?

City save some money and go with the stock radio and upgrade the RB1 yourself. I got mine for $700 and got the ipod kit from Chuck. Works awesome. The ipod is connected and controlled through the the RB1. You can control all the functions on the ipod through the RB1. it also shows track information and playlists. It is a must have with the RB1. Who carries discs anymore... . Sound is better also. Simple to install as I did mine myself.

I got my Nav radio (RB1) from Ebay for $650. One of the best mods I have ever made. No, u cannot play the cd and use the Nav at the same time, but it produces better sound, clearer and more powerful more reliable sound. My stock radio used to cut out on hot days after spirited driving. The system is very accurate and really awesome and looks great!

Chuck installed mine like he did for Nader. Go for it, you will NOT regret this mod!

Thanks for the responses!

Please educate me....with the standard radio installation, what is in the dash space required for the much taller nose of the RB1 unit? Do you simply cut the dash to make a larger opening for the RB1?

I can actually live without my CD's if I've got Sirius, which i really enjoy mostly because of the random music choice. Also, is the mp3 player connection universal, i.e., must you use an Ipod or can you use any mp3 player?

BTW - NICE interior!

Yeah, Nader has a really bad ass Mamba!:headbang: You should see his wheels!

Call Tator for the installation info. 914 763 3136 I know you must be careful where you place the Nav antenna due to interference....

the RB1 is the same size as the stock 6 disc radio.......its a direct replacement (plug and play) I had the nav unit for my viper and sent it back to the guy I bought it from on ebay because I could not get any radio reception:dunno: the nav works ok but nothing like my touch screen aftermarket Eclipse unit I have in another car. With the RB1 you can not play CD's and use the nav at the same time (only 1 cd/dvd drive). you can buy a disc changer and hook it up to the rb1 if you wanted to. Like I said before the Nav is ok but maybe i'm alittle spoiled with the 7'touch screen one's. I would save the 1700.00 and pick one up on ebay

As Ullose mentioned, the RB1 fits in the stock location. Simple plug and play. While it looks bigger it is the same size as the stock radio. The ipod kit will work with an ipod or any mp3 but if you use another mp3 player you can not control it through the radio. Beleive me it is well worth the money. By the way the install was simple as I did it myself. Chuck just got me the ipod kit through Mopar.

You think the interior looks good now? I have a mod i am working on that will take it to another level.
